My wife and I are regular and quite frequent visitors to the area and have often been to the Maltsters over the last few years, always enjoying our meals in this convivial place although we have sometimes thought it a little on the expensive side for what it provides. On our last visit in November 2012 - on a relatively quiet evening, out of "the season" now - the hostess explained that the Maltsters had changed hands a few weeks previously, just after our last visit in September I think. We noticed some changes, including a slightly different emphasis to the menu and a noticeable reduction in the average food pricing. However, we were both happy to find absolutely no change in the quality of the food, nor of its presentation and, whilst this was a fairly quiet trading evening admittedly, the efficiency and style of the service was a definite improvement. We were made very welcome, and then served, by one of the new owners and we were also told that the chef used by the previous owners had been retained.
We shall definitely return, early in 2013, to see how it is going, but this visit gave us confidence in the new owners, who seem to take pride in what they are doing and are succeeding well right now.
Oh, and those who - like us - have previously noticed it a little chilly in winter if you don't sit near the bar fireplace might like to know that an early move was to replace the heating boiler and add more heating radiators........
