Beautiful, well equipped comfortable cottage in rural location. Perfect for a peaceful getaway and to step out of the crazy world we live in. Little slice of heaven.
My wife and I took my elderly parents away for a few days to visit friends and relatives in the area. This fitted the bill perfectly. Perfectly clean, very good decoration and fittings etc, full working kitchen and two lovely bedrooms (one ensuite) plus a very good bathroom. Living space and bedrooms were large and well equipped. Would definitely stay here again and highly recommend.
Clean, well-equipped, warm, comfortable, lovely view, everything as shown in photos. Couldn't fault really. Jenny was very welcoming and helpful. Would definitely recommend.
The Old Workshop is situated in an ideal location; away from everything and in very short distance of everything. Thank you Jenny for the hospitality and the nice refurbishing from the Old Workshop; it's a lovely cottage to stay!
In the area there is much to do... There is plenty of it to visit next time.
Some suggestions:
- Ightham Mote (House, garden and estate)
- Scotney Castle (House, garden and estate)
- Pashley Manor Gardens (One of the finest gardens in England)
- Bateman's (Rudyard Kipling from Junglebook...)
- Seven Sisters (Country Park for beautiful walks)
- Great Dixter (House, gardens and nurseries)
- Michelham Priory (House and gardens)
- Arundel Castle and gardens
- Penshurst Place and gardens
- Firle Beacon (near Lewes BN86LP)
- Cathedral of Rochester (36 mi - ME115X)
- Cathedral of Chichester
I love to cook! The furnace gave some difficulties because of the lights... But, the good stores in Heatfield let me forgot it immediately (Waitroise a little bit down hill).
We will visit the Old Workshop again, maybe next year!

The Old Workshop was a perfect base for us as we attended an event in Mayfield. A lovely quiet location, easy to get to off the main road from Heathfield and with view of the rolling hills and countryside off the deck. Unfortunately the weather didn't allow us the opportunity to use the deck beyond the first night, but will take full advantage when we come again. As a host, Jenny was great. Showed us around and was kind to leave a nice bottle of bubbly and something sweet for us. It was a nice welcome. The beds were comfy and the set-up of the spacious house worked well for us. There were some DVDs for my daughter, which she loved and she wanted me to say that she also loved the grape vines next to the house and all the butterflies around them. The kitchen had everything we needed, and having stayed at a lot of self-catering places over the years was great to have a kitchen with knives that are actually sharp! It is sometimes the little things. All-in-all it was a pretty perfect 4 days, thank you!
We had a very pleasant stay in the Old Workshop.
We enjoyed the forests walks, the scenery and different places (Brighton, Sissinghurst, Battle and Kipling's house)
This week was very relaxing.
Quiet.
Nothing is missing.
Clean and well equiped.
Welcoming guests.
Lovely location in the countryside, big grassed area our daughter loved, especially the Easter egg hunt we had. Inside has everything you need to a high standard, and its much bigger than the photographs suggest. Would recomend it for a stay in East Sussex.
