This charming B&B in the heart of East Sussex well deserves its recent listing in Alistair Sawday. The main guest room is substantial, comfortable, and with a number of views over the garden and small lake. Simon, Vicky and their talented children are very welcoming hosts, and happy to give gentle steers as to local sites and nearby pubs and restaurants.

The house is within striking distance of many family days out as well as Seven Sisters and Sussex coast. As well as some coastal walking, we enjoyed visits to Bodiam Castle (a real castle as children understand it), Bateman's (latterly the home of Rudyard Kipling), and the gardens of Great Dixter (enchanting even to a toddler).

Thimbles was particularly good with young children not only because Vicky is happy to make children's tea, and you can have a home-cooked grown-ups' supper once the children have gone to bed, but also because they loved the garden and the morning ritual of feeding the goats and chickens with Simon or Vicky.

I have no doubt we shall return.

We stayed here for two nights and were made to feel very welcome, the accommodation was to a very high standard, the owners were away whilst we were there, however we were well looked after by julie and her assistant lottie.
We would love to come back for a bit longer and perhaps enjoy the gardens and outdoor areas, our two children were very disappointed to leave.
If you are looking for quality accomodation in this area ,look no further than thimbles.

Room Tip: double bedroom with en suite is top class.

Without a doubt we will be back. Beautiful room, in a beautiful house, in the pefect loaction and a wondeful family. A quintisential Old style English household which was almost impossible to draw the line between a B&B and being one of the family. With the wamest of welcomes and a breakfast table where everything was home (and I mean home) grown. With 6 acre's of grounds, including their own kitchen garden, chickens, piglets, lake and small island. A special thanks to Vicki, Simon, George, Elizabeth and Lottie for making a short stay a wondeful one. We will be back for longer next time.

Room Tip: They are all beautiful

My family and I would like to thank Thimbles for a wonderful stay. The owners were very hospitable and saw to our every need. The main room is very spacious and well equiped with a vast ensuite (inc. bath and shower), comfortable bed and all the mod cons. The grounds are beautiful and peaceful - our young boy loved all the animals. The breakfast was a wonderful selection of tasty homemade produce (well worth opting for the full English with homemade bacon, sausages and eggs!)
The location is off the main thoroughfare (which suited us fine) but the market town of Heathfield is only a mile away with a good selection of shops etc. The price for the rooms is quite high compared to other B&B's in the area but in my opinion still very good value. Our stay was very brief but we would have loved to stay longer!
