“A real Gem”

What a lovely time we had at Nether Abbey. From start to finish we were thoroughly spoiled!. Our room was lovely and the food and the service were both excellent. The staff organised our tee times for us and nothing was too much trouble. We were scheduled to spend three nights at Nether Abbey and three nights at St Andrews but we enjoyed Nether Abbey so much we curtailed our St Andrews stay to return to Nether abbey for two more nights.
We will be back!

We are a group of MDs from Iceland who travel to North Berwick each year for a week of golf. We have tried many hotels in the area but have found Nerther Abbey Hotel to be the hotel that best suits our needs. The rooms are spacious and recently redone in a modern style with comfortable beds and furnishings. The staff is very attentive and friendly and the hotel is well kept in every way. Breakfast is included and made to order. The coffee could be stronger but on the whole breakfast was good. There is a full service restaurant with an interesting menu including seafood catch of the day and good wine selection. The bar ajoins the lobby and has flat screen TVs for sports events and is lively and evidently popular with the Scots. So we are most certainly going back to the Nether Abbey Hotel next year.

Hotel is comfortable and clean but was let down by the complete lack of service you would expect in this standard of hotel.
At the time of booking we asked if the our room could be ready early, in order that we could change for a wedding in the town; no problem we were told on the phone, only to arrive to find that the room was not fully ready.
The sandwiches and ''tapas'' served at lunchtime were overpriced, of poor quality and amateurish in their presentation. Breakfast promised good things but likewise failed to deliver on charm or service(no marmalade) and the waiter couldn't have cared less. When we tried to get a table for our evening meal we were told in an offhand manner that the restaurant was fully booked, take it or leave it. We left.
Loud music percolating from the Bar at 2am doesn't help either.

Having had a mix-up with the bookings for the MacDonald Marina, we searched for a suitable alternative and were so glad we found this gem.

We arrived early for check-in, and although our rooms were still being cleaned by the friendly maids, we were allowed to pop in to freshen up and store our belongings. We then decided to stay for lunch in the restaurant which had a good choice (especially since our 5 year old is extremely fussy). When i requested lemonade to drink our waiter returned a few moments later to ask whether i would be interested in a locally made diluting lemonade which was just delicious. I really appreciate a hotel that supports local businesses.

We had interconnecting rooms which were both a lovely size with excellent en-suite facilities and a bonus with the plasma tv's in each room.

The highlight for my dh though had to be the breakfast. Too many hotels seem to forget that we have excellent produce in Scotland for this time of day but the Nether Abbey surpassed all expectations (really escellent kippers apparantly). :-0
