We decided to treat ourselves to a night at the Marine Hotel & got an excellent rate booking on-line. The bedroom was spacious (although we could hear our neighbours as we had an ajoining room...but we had good neighbours!) & the bathroom was also a very good size - all very clean.

The staff were great, even though the 2 hours powercut we had in the evening which effected the local area...we had just ordered our dinner when the lights went out!

The staff were brilliant throughout, reacting well to the situation & doing the best they could for their customers, providing sandwiches & salads as they could not cook & a class of champagne on then house....over & above considering the powercut was out of their control.

It made for a fun night.....& I am gutted I didn't get to have my dinner (as I know the food is excellent!).

Several of the same staff were back on shift the next morning, serving a top breakfast with a smile!

Wonderful hotel and venue for a special family occasion or relaxing weekend. We found North Berwick to be quite charming. Hotel Staff contributed greatly to making our stay everything and more than we expected. The Food and service in the restaurant was excellent. Definitely on our list for a return visit during the summer months.

This is our second trip to this hotel over the new year period and those of you who read my review last year will understand why we stayed an extra night this time. From the moment of arrival our party of 8 was warmly welcomed and that welcome remained our entire three nights. The new manager, Simon, was excellent (by the way the old , also excellent manager, Seamus,is now at Linden Hall) ably helped by Caroline and all the staff. Rooms very good, food delicious and New Years Eve fantastic. My feet have not danced so much since last year.(should have had the wonderful spa treatment after not before!) God willing we will all be back.

This was our first visit to the Macdonald Marine Hotel & Spa and we were not disappointed. From arrival to leaving the staff could not have been any more friendly or helpful.

Finding the entrance to the car park was not easy but this probably had more to do with my lack of observation, coupled with the dusting of snow, than the hotel's signage. The car park is directly across the road from the hotel.

We had booked a sea view room and you certainly had a view of the sea - you could almost touch it. The only thing between you and the sea was the golf course. Our main criticism of the room, and bathroom, was the lack of storage space - there was one wardrobe ans one drawer in the dressing table. Hardly enough for one night let alone a three night New Year's break.

Having booked the New Year break the first thing that we had to endure was the afternoon tea which, after a five hour car journey through the snow, was more than welcome. Dinner on the first night was served in the restaurant by very attentive, yet unobtrusive, staff.

On New Year's Eve we had the dinner in the Bass Room and it was an excellent night - although I would suggest that the management look at the training of some of their function room staff.

On the night of New Year's Day we were treated to cocktails before dinner - again in the restaurant.

I have to sa that the breakfasts at the Macdonald Marine Hotel & Spa are amongst the best that I have had at any hotel.

This hotel is ideally located for a visit to Edinburgh by train - saves the hassle of driving and parking and the station is only a ten minute walk. The journey is about 35 minutes.

Lovely atmosphere and in a really good location. Staff very warm and friendly. Very good food and magnificent views. More wardrobe space required in rooms. We had friends in other rooms, and they all felt there was a lack of drawers and wardrobe space.

Nothing can surpass the feeling of relaxation which enveloped us yet again (it was our 5th visit to this haven) at the Marine Hotel in picturesque North Berwick.
Helpful and understanding staff greeted us in from the chill afternoon and from the sumptuous reception area we were shown our (upgraded on request) sea view room.
Gazing out through our large window across the golf course, the mesmerising vista and sound of waves crashing against Bass Rock and small islands around which fishing vessels plied helped us unwind very quickly.
Spacious yet cosy, our quarters were equipped with everything we needed, the deep bath being ideal for soothing those walk-weary legs!
Pre-dinner drinks were quaffed as we sat cosseted in sleep-inducing sofas in one of several quiet lounges. We have never failed to be impressed by the tantalising selection of dishes in the grand Craigleith restaurant with its portraits and elegant and tasteful décor and the attentive, yet unobtrusive, staff made sure everything was just perfect. A bonus is discovering that you can book online (try around 5pm.uk time, if you get my drift) for a meal discount and put the savings towards a couple of liqueurs (bar prices are a bit steep).
A revitalising spa with its spacious pool left us invigorated and the outdoor hot whirlpool area was superb for chilling out under the stars.
A special mention for the hotel's housekeeping team who returned the expensive camera equipment I inadvertently left in our room. A quick phone call to them and the equipment was immediately posted across the country to me . . . free of charge! That's service.
If you like walking (hill with great views at back of town plus coastal track), golfing, browsing quaint shops and pubs then don't miss a jaunt here.
We have enjoyed family breaks at The Marine over about 10 years (the 'east wing' family room suited our four-kid clan perfectly) and I'm sure 2010 will see us back (now child-free) at our bolt-hole overlooking the rugged and beautiful Bass Rock.
