Arch House Bed & Breakfast

Reviewed May 8, 2013

We spent May Bank Holiday weekend in north Norfolk and stayed at Arch House for 3 nights. We went with my husband's parents and had two adjacent garden rooms which were easily accessible. The rooms were well appointed and our bed was extremely comfortable. It was very relaxing sitting outside on the decking reading our books in the sunshine. It was all very clean and freshly decorated with some nice little touches such as a basket of pear drops if you fancied something sweet. Breakfast was generally good but would have liked to have been asked whether we would like toast before or after cooked breakfast. The bacon was delicious and to be recommended. It was a little disappointing the the toast was ordinary sliced bread rather than something a little more special. Good location and well situated away from the busy seafront but within easy walking distance of town. Felt it was a little overpriced but very pleasant nevertheless.

Room Tip: If anyone in finds stairs difficult then request a garden room.

Dear Bridget,

Thank you so much for taking the time to review Arch House.
I'm thrilled to hear you found our beds comfortable and enjoyed the pear drops!
We have taken your comments on board regarding breakfast and will look at our procedure. I have to say, however, that the majority of customers like their toast whilst waiting for their cooked breakfast. Those that don't normally let us know when we visit the table to ask if they would like brown or white bread. We would have been more than happy to give you the toast after the meal had we known. We are now asking customers if they would like toast before or after their breakfast to avoid future disappointment.
I'm glad you enjoyed our bacon, we benefit from an excellent local butcher.
I'm sorry you found us overpriced, but you stayed in the garden rooms on bank holiday, and as I'm sure you could tell by the hustle and bustle in the town, this is very much a peak time for us and all local businesses.
We're so glad you enjoyed your stay and found the rooms to your liking.
We value your comments and very much hope to see you and your husband's parents at Arch House again in the future.
Many thanks,

We booked at the last minute for a one night stay and chose the kingsize room upstairs. Kate and Sophie were very welcoming and the room was lovely, although the stairs are a bit steep. Our only criticism would be the small hand basin in the en-suite.

We had a very tasty breakfast with plenty of choice including a veggie option.

Great location and only a short walk into town.

Room Tip: Choose a garden rooms downstairs if you are a bit wobbly on your legs.

Thanks so much to the Arch House for their lovely warm welcome, well appointed room and yummy breakfasts. Service was efficient, unobtrusive and friendly and our three nights stay was competitively priced and the whole experience entirely positive. The location on the edge of town is just right, giving a sense of being in the country yet still only a 5 minute walk to restaurants and quay side in Wells-next-the-sea and the little touches like vouchers for the Crown show both good business and a strong sense of customer care. I will definitely recommend them to friends and family and have no hesitation in writing this review.

This was a late booking. We decided to chose the kingsize room and it was a good job we did, as the bed was just right. The room was warm and unable to turn the heater down or open the sash windows. The bathroom was very small, just a shower and macerator toilet which was noisy. We think it was over priced but when you look it is the going rate for that area.

On a positive note the staff were brilliant and very welcoming. Accommodation was lovely and clean all through. We had a very tasty breakfast plenty of choices offered including veggie option Well situated for walk into the town. If we can we would stay there again.

Room Tip: If you don't like stairs ask for a courtyard room

Dear Ian,

thank you for taking the time to review Arch House,
We agree, the kingsize bed is a great size. It must be one of our most comfortable beds! We're thrilled you enjoyed it.
We are a little disappointed you had problems with the heating. Each radiator in every room has individual controls for the temperature, the same as found in most residential properties. We would have been more than happy to assist you with the temperature if you had let us know you were having some difficulties. We have taken your comments on board, and have now put clear signs in the rooms to assist customers who may find themselves in the same predicament. Likewise with the sash window - it absolutely does open, we have it open today as I write this, and again, we would have been happy to assist you with it had you let us know.
It is such a shame your otherwise enjoyable stay was slightly affected by such rectifiable issues - we really want our guests to enjoy themselves at Arch House, so we implore future guests, and yourselves should you like to return, to please, please, please let us know of any issues during your stay. It is impossible for us to do anything after the event, and it saddens us deeply to think you went away even slightly dissatisfied due to such a simple issue.
Thank you for your kind comments regarding the staff, breakfast and for your room tip. We really hope you enjoyed your stay and thank you kindly for writing a review.
We very much hope to see you again in the future.
Many thanks,

Back to Arch House for the first time in a few years, but very pleased to see that the friendly welcome, amazing breakfast and lovely rooms are as good as they ever were.

Definitiely recommend for a weekend break, or longer, and only a 5 minute walk into the beautiful town of Wells-Next-The-Sea.

We'll be back!

Room Tip: Loved the garden room - like a tiny villa all to yourself!

What a wow entering No. 4 and seeing the oak four poster last week. (Made up for the one I could't get for our wedding 50 years ago!) Really snug behind the French windows onto the courtyard: despite the arctic winds outside. Well fortified by Kate's amazing locally sourced English breakfast and now trying to get back to target weight. Our second stay at Arch House and looking forward to the next one.

Room Tip: Rooms onto the decked courtyard good for sitting out and getting to the car park without going throu...

I have stayed here twice now and the breakfast is fantastic with locally sourced produce. The rooms are clean and tidy and I had a good nights sleep. I think Arch house provides great value for money.

Thank you for your review.
"Best breakfast" is a great accolade!
We have worked at improving it over the last year by sourcing everything we can locally and are particularly loving the local free range eggs that we now use.
