Owner description: At low water, Wells beach has huge open views and mile upon mile of sands and shallow channels to enjoy. When the tide comes in, the beach is transformed into a harbour, with the entrance channel suddenly busy with visiting yachts, fishing boats setting out for the day or returning with their catch, local small boats going out to fish as well as clouds of small sailing boats racing or cruising within the harbour. The golden sands are backed by colourful beach huts which have been the subject of many a painting and postcard. The popular Beach Cafe nearby is perfect for refreshments during your visit.

I don't know how big this beach is, but we obviously came at low tide and it seemed to go on for miles. The car park nearest the beach is a fair step from the harbour town itself but is very close to the beach. The old mine just outside the car park is worth a photo but just over the dune is a huge beach of golden sand. We went on a sunny midweek day outside of school holidays and the car park was pretty full - but the beach is so large that there was plenty of space. You could try to build the largest sand castle you could want and you would not impinge on our neighbours at all!

This is a great beach with a large dog friendly section, good inexpensive car parking, a cafe supplying the essentials. If you keep your eyes open you can catch sights of the seals popping their heads out of the sea.

We went here as someone recommended it over sheringham where we were staying. All I can say is what an amazing beach it's so big that there is plenty of space even in peak periods!

We spent two mornings there and had a great time in the sea with our 2 year old.

I would recommend this beech to anyone.

The only thing I would say is that when the tide is low the smell from the boat channel is horrible and eggy. I'm guessing this is from the boats / dredging etc that's happening.

It's worth the long walk, although you can take a miniature train for part of the journey, or drive up almost to the sea front. Lovely dunes mixed with inlets, pine trees, little painted beach huts all make this a very family friendly beach.
