We didn't actually go into the house, as there were plently of other things to do with young children - a cycle ride round the lovely grounds, a wander through the huge walled gardens, an outdoor lunch, and a play in the adventure playground. The cafe food was tasty and good value. We could probably spend a whole day here. Overall good value for money.

We drove to Holkham Hall after long wishing to visit. We enjoyed our visit and the hall was very interesting. the grounds were pleasanyt and during our buggy ride down to the walled garden we saw red deer.
The walled garden itself billed as "the biggest walled garden in Europe" was disappointing and we realized that it was under resourced and struggling to present itself prioperly.
Such a large undertaking probably needs more people working on it and neglect and lack of labour aplied was evident.
Not withstanding this we felt that the people working there were hopefully doing their best ?

All the staff at Holkham were very pleasant and friendly which added to our enjoyment.
My main interest in Holkham , and the reason I had longed to visit was because I know that Holkham was the greatest game shooting estate in the country during the tome of " the Biog shots".peoople like the king in 1880 and expert shots like Lord Walsingham and Lord de Grey.
This heritage was hardly mentioned and a very poor and meagre item in the museum was completely missing the point and totally inasdequate. I have written to Viscount Coke about this issue in what I hope he feels is a positive and constructive letter.
Sandringham is a far better visit on many fronts and in particular in the way game shooting is presented.

As we had our dog with us, we did not enter the hall, but just wanted to walk around the grounds. It was a very reasonable £2.50 to park our car very close to the hall itself. We then spend a very enjoyable hour or so walking around the outside of the hall and along the lake. The weather was very hot indeed and the shade of the mature trees was most welcome.

We would definitely have toured the inside of the hall had we not had the dog with us, but the stroll around this famous country house was a very pleasant experience.

Visited with friends and found refreshments to be average and very expensive. The walled garden was nice but little work going on with weeds everywhere and looking generally untidy. I understand this is a long term project but I won't be returning in the near future. The rest of the grounds were fabulous and the museum well worth the visit. All in all this isn't a cheap day out but worth a visit when the weathers good.

Thank you for your Tripadvisor review. Your feedback is important to us. As you pointed out, the walled gardens are being restored and are very much a work in progress and whilst there is still much to be done, huge notable steps have been made to the 6.5 acre area since the restoration project began.
