Dear Mr McHugh

Following our concersation on Sunday when you checked in. I used your first room to show the housekeeping team what our rooms should not be left like . I have also made it very aware that that is not up to standard. I feel this has it home and on reviewing the rooms since we have moved forward. I do apologise that your room was not up to standard and that you had to be moved.

I am a little disappointed that you didn't feel that when i checked you out on the Friday morning or chatted to you at the Bar Thursday night you did not bring this up . We both work for the same company and I always feel all feedback is helpful. I may feel let down by my team like the Sunday when you checked in.

Was really surprised at this hotel. Very tired and dated and could do with a clean. Our bedroom was passable with very old furniture. The bathroom was not very clean at all. There are tiles in the shower area that have black and nasty looking grout round them. The bath was not very clean and there was a black ring around the the bath near the plug hole. Definately would not have had a bath! The metal part around the plughole in the sink and around the taps was really quite nasty to look at. Very noisy place with the coaches coming in through the night and being warm had to have the windows open. Thankfully there was no wedding going on! Feel could have stayed at a B&B for the same price which would have included breakfast and a clean room. A shame as I remember this hotel years ago which then had a great reputation.

Room Tip: Ask for one with no party going on underneath and not facing the public car park.

I do apologise that your stay wasn't to our normal standards.

Over the last few weeks we have spent a large amount of time with the housekeeping team and i think with the changes we have made we shouldn't shouldn't have any issues in the future. i do apologise that they let you down.

Being stituated right in the middle of the town and having a good summer for once so everyone has their windows open we are finding there is more comments about the noise. I have spoken to the relevant people at our Head Office and we are looking at changing the windows which will help when its cooler.

Thank you again for putting your comments online

Just had an enjoyable weekend stay in this hotel. It was booked as part of a "Dad's Army" weekend trip for my husband who is a fan. A lot of the filming for the Dad's Army tv series took place in and around Thetford and this is the hotel that the cast and crew stayed in when they were filiming in Thetford. To be fair there is not much reference to this in the hotel itself apart from a few framed photographs near reception and the restaurants and bars being name after characters from the show, eg. Private Pike's bar, the Walmington-on-Sea Restaurant, Sgt Wilson's Restaurant and Corporal Jone's bar. The hotel itself is a little tired in places but clean and the staff are amazingly friendly, especially Ollie and Keicey who were working in the restaurant. Our room was on the first floor above the Walmington-on-Sea Restaurant, it was large with a good en-suite, the furniture is a little dated but serviceable and it was all very clean. My only complaints would be that there was only 1 bath and 1 hand towel, no clock radio (handy for telling the time when you are half asleep!) and the coffee/tea supplies in the room were not replenished during our stay. We asked about the towels at reception and within minutes there was a knock at our door and a fresh supply of towels, so you really can't fault the service and I have to say that bed was the most comfortable hotel bed I've ever slept in! It does say on the hotel website that this hotel is a busy and popular wedding venue and there was a wedding on during our stay, however, we were prepared and had brought earplugs which was handy as the wedding reception was right below us! However, it wasn't intrusive at all, we ate in the Sgt Wilson restaurant which is next door to where the wedding was and weren't bothered at all by the noise or the guests. The food was good and the service was good too. All in all I would recommend this hotel, especially if you are there for the Dad's Army experience, but even if you aren't. If you are a fan check out the Dad's Army Museum, the Burrell Museum where Jones's van is kept and also the Bressingham Steam Museum who also have a Dad's Army exhibition. If you like the supernatural there is also a haunted room in the old part of the hotel which you can stay in, if you are brave enough!

Room Tip: In the summer months try and avoid rooms above the Walmington-on-Sea restaurant as thats where the w...

£85 a night you should be able to get a good nights sleep, the hotel is very nice in side and out clean and tidy plenty of parking ,and rooms good, here's the problem until 1 am on the Sunday morning our room was a beat box due to the wedding party going on down stairs I took sound recordings of the noise as we had been up since 5am travelling to Thetford from Hereford so we could have a full day at Dads army sites around the area. By 9pm having had food and a walk we were ready for a rest which we could not do due to noise from party ,phoned reception who told us they would come up and see if its to loud never showed twice more I called still no show ,Please if you ever go to Thetford at the weekend avoid the bell at all costs.

Stayed here one night whilst on business in Thetford and had no complaints. The staff are friendly and courteous and the place itself has character. The room I had was quite basic but clean and functional. There is ample car parking and it is very handy for the town.I didn't dine at The Bell preferring to go into town for an Indian,so I can't comment on the food.I had breakfast though and it was terrific, all in all a good night.

The Bell was just what we needed as an escape away from the hum drum of life. The food was very good (Evening and Breakfast). We stayed in room 29 (The Haunted Room), we found the room lovely, well equipped and everything we could have asked for. So what the view was the Grave Yard, we would have rather had that then a view of the car park, shops or building site. We will return and request this room again. We would like to thank the staff for an enjoyable time and for being so friendly and welcoming.

Myself, my husband, two young daughters and our dog went exploring around Thetford last weekend and stopped at the Bell Hotel for a drink half way. The staff were excellent, a special mention to sherrie and Kelsey who were lovely and welcoming, even going as far as bringing the dog water and the children colouring books while they waited for their dinner. Dogs are allowed in the hotel - everywhere except the restaurant. Woody was given lots of fuss!
We did not eat but the menu looked varied, maybe one to try! And the kids were more than happy with their food. Highly recommend as a stop off! Thanks to all x
