Owner description: Welcome to one of King's Lynn most beautiful buildings, The Majestic Cinema. This stunning cinema was officially opened on 23rdMay 1928; with the year commemorated in the stained glass windows at the front of the building. As an independent cinema, the Majestic prides itself on being a friendly place to come for all movie goers. The main attraction to the Majestic, beside its films, is the building itself and all the history that comes with it. Today, the Majestic has three screens but back when it was first opened the Majestic had one two tier screen (where Screen 1 and 2 are now), and a ballroom (where Screen 3 is now). Over the years the Majestic has transformed but features from its past still live on within the building. You just need to know where to look. When you next visit the Majestic look out for certain features like the stained glass windows in the main entrance, the circle of zodiac signs in the ceiling of Screen 1, the bouncy spring-layered floor in Screen 3, and the old stage in Screen 2. Every year the Majestic takes part in King's Lynn's Heritage Day where you have the chance to explore the cinema in more detail and to learn about the buildings past. The Majestic puts on tours with knowledgeable staff always willing to guide you through its history. Currently, the Majestic has three screens. Screen 1, with its ornate dome, seats 313. Screen 2, which holds 245 seats. This screen has disabled access and also has a superior quality hearing loop system. Screen 3 holds 113 seats and was originally the ballroom which closed 1977. All of our screens now have Dolby Digital 7.1 surround sound installed.

This cinema is housed in a great building with plenty of character. The large screen (No 1) is good with loads of seating that is tiered, while the smaller screens have refurbished seating (as does Screen 1) but not on tiers, so children do require booser seats and if you are unlucky enough to be sitting behind a tall person, then you may get a bit fed up.

The service is good and the refreshments varied, but overpriced, as is usually the case at most cinemas.

Some films aren't on for very long, so it's best to get in there quickly or you may miss out!

“My regular cinema.”
Reviewed September 19, 2012

This is a great cinema especially if you go on Mondays as all seats are £3. The main screen 1 is has a huge seating area and is a modern take on an oldstyle cinema. Screen 2 has been refurbished so it has great seats now but the sound is not brilliant and I find screen 3 a little small but for £3 its great.

“Good choice”
Reviewed September 5, 2012

Admittedly they tend only to show the new blockbusters (for obvious reasons) they do also put on more eclectic movies which is good! Clean, 4-5 films to choose from, friendly staff and well priced-Don't forget Orange Wednesdays!
