We stayed on Wednesday for our wedding anniversary. We loved this hotel! Room was very nicely furnished, terrace and spa facilities beautiful and extremely clean. Breakfast was cooked to order and the staff were friendly. Our meal was nice, probably the least impressive aspect of our stay: the menu was a little uninspiring given the focus on fresh local produce, however our scallops and steak were cooked very nicely. Service was great. Perhaps the hotel could inform guests in advance when spa facilities will be closed; we were asked to leave the spa at 1pm on our day of check-out due to a wedding. Had we known this would be the case we would have got up a little earlier to avail of the facilities. This aside, it was a lovely stay and we would definitely consider returning!

Thank you for taking the time to write about your recent overnight stay celebrating your anniversary; we are pleased you enjoyed your stay with dinner and I’m sorry that you couldn’t stay on any later than 1pm the following day to use the Spa facilities; its only very occasionally that we have an ‘exclusive use’ booking. We look forward to seeing you on your return visit.

As a guidebook for the area puts it " this hotel has amusing delusions of grandeur".

Our room ( a garden room) was pleasant enough with all that you would expect, but then for the rate they charge per night this would need to be so. However there are only two small windows which open to provide ventilation, and during hot spells the room was extremely uncomfortable, the other alternative would have been to leave the patio door open at night - probably not to be recommended! The bedside table was damaged and marked by something which had previously been screwed down to it, this I would not expect from a hotel aiming for the market they seem to be.

Next to the restaurant - the menu is poor and unimaginative. Given the access they have to local fresh produce, hardly any of this was featured. The choices were not even seasonal - asparagus featured on a menu in July. It is a menu aimed at expense account dining, and some of the prices for wine reflect this. The cutlery is tatty and mismatched which does not give a very smart appearance to the table. During dinner we were the last in the restaurant, and you could sense the staff circling around at a distance ready to go home, and sure enough as soon as my fork was put down before I had emptied my mouth a member of staff came up to remove the plate and head off to the kitchen with it. Breakfast is a limited choice and yogurt had run out before 8.30. Their breakfast menu is the same each day so how can you run out ?

Upon checking out, when I raised these issues with the receptionist she promised to get the owners to respond to my points in writing. I have received no response and upon subsequently reading other reviews of this hotel, I won't be either. I can only assume the owners do not care about guest feedback especially as we stated on their satisfaction survey that we probably would not recommend the hotel, nor are we likely to return.

I am sorry that your visit did not live up to your expectations. We genuinely want our guests to have a good time and the perception you gained is a far cry from that which we intend to convey. There are certainly no “delusions of grandeur”, the menu is not aimed at “expense account dining”, the asparagus was English although you could equally have chosen some of the produce that the kitchen uses from our own gardens every day and unlike many establishments all our expensive wines have a fixed mark up rather than the normal percentage making them far better value for money. I wanted to discuss your comments whilst you were still here, but regrettably you left without giving me the opportunity to do so.

This was our third stay at CH under the present ownership; the last two times for New Year, and were recognised and welcomed back like long lost friends. We have already booked for the coming New Year. This time we stayed in one of the larger garden rooms, with its own small walled garden and patio. We were so impressed that we have changed our New Year booking to this room. The owners really have put some good thinking into their designs and facilities, their rooms are now all equipped with tea and coffee making facilities including a Nespresso machine, home-made cookies and fresh milk in thefridge.

However, what impressed us both more than anything else was the way the staff responded to a problem which occurred during our stay. We did not make a formal complaint but the relevant manager was made aware, by the staff involved, of what had gone wrong and we received a genuine apology. The way a problem is handled can be more informative than if nothing had happened at all. I believe this showed that the staff cared enough to report what had gone wrong and that the owners have encouraged a culture in which such events are dealt with openly and professionally. Well done and thanks to all

Room Tip: Not had a bad room, Rooms in main building are more 'traditional' while the garden rooms may...

Thank you for taking the trouble to write about your recent return visit from which we are pleased to see you had an enjoyable return visit and appreciate the thought that has gone to providing the room larders, which are now almost in every room. We were honestly sorry about the problem that occurred during your stay and thank you accepting our apologies; we genuinely do care and want our guests to have a great time with us. I’m glad that we will still be able to welcome you back to Congham in the future.

My friend and I decided to book a last minute mid-week overnight stay at Congham Hall, sharing a lovely twin room (which we had upgraded!) overlooking the front of the property.

We enjoyed a bottle of chilled rosé wine on the patio in the evening sun followed by a sumptuous evening meal in the restaurant.

After a good nights sleep in very comfortable beds, we enjoyed a lovely breakfast followed by a stroll around the wonderful herb garden, which gave us lots of inspiration for garden design and plants.

We then headed off to the spa, which with only the two of us using was like having our own private retreat! After splashing around in the pool and relaxing in the saunas we spoilt ourselves with a couple of beauty treatments.

Our stay at Congham Hall was a wonderful short break, a perfect way to unwind after a busy week at work. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, the decor calming, homely with a modern twist. We loved the row of Dubarry boots, very stylish and a great idea to invite guests to use when wet outside.

Thank you Congham Hall for a fabulous spa break!

Thank you for taking the time to write about your recent stay from which we are delighted to see that you had a fabulous spa break. Lots of guests to head out for the day in the summer and so the ideal time to have the Spa to yourselves for a while. We hope to welcome you back again in the near future.

I arrived a little earlier than the advertised room ready check in time. No one to be found at the small reception greeting area. Eventually found a very pleasant member of staff. I requested to have lunch but no tables were free on the outside terrace, I was asked to wait in the reception area. Eventually someone did come and ask me if I would like a drink. A table was found after a short wait and the food was pleasant if not an over emphasis on the delicious chips.
Room was ready 30 minutes after allocated check in time. Beautiful room but on the hottest day of the year NO air conditioning. The requested fan made no difference the room remained stiflingly hot for the 2 days.
I was part of a larger party for dinner and we had pre- ordered our menus. It was so slow to the point if tedious and the waitresses had no idea whose food was which. Having sat down at a little after 8:00 p.m. We did not finish until 11:00 p.m. They appeared grossly understaffed and the staff poorly trained and flustered.
The breakfasts on both days were delicious. The spa is a delight and beautifully designed. Amazingly the room service meal I had the second night was far superior to the restaurant meal and came quickly and was hot.
The decor and ambiance of this hotel are fabulous, but it has a long way to go on service.
I also think in view of all the above it is incredibly overpriced for the rooms.
They are obviously very popular with locals as there were a number of functions being catered for over the weekend. They do need to get their staffing levels and training to match.
The gardens are divine.

Room Tip: I stayed in peony the best garden room offering extremely pleasant and everything you need except ai...

Thank you for taking the trouble to write about your recent stay with us. I’m sorry there didn’t appear to be anyone at reception when you arrived, I expect that the receptionist was just with another guest when you arrived and would have returned within a few minutes. We did experience quite a few hot days this summer, but hardly enough to warrant air-conditioning and some of the very hot days were also very humid; as you will know the garden bedroom in which you stayed was lucky enough to have large French doors. I’m pleased to see that you enjoyed the gardens and the Spa and hope that we might be able to welcome you again in the future.

Stayed here for my 30th birthday for 2 nights with 2 year old and a dog (!). The hotel is lovely and quiet, but we didn't feel uneasy bringing the toddler; there were other kids around. The room was in the garden area and was lovely and large, with nice bathroom, overlooking the gardens. The room was supposed to have wifi but we couldn't get a signal.

The pool in the spa was lovely and warm, which we were able to use at certain times with the child. The changing rooms lovely as well.

Breakfast was very nice, not a huge selection but everything was a lovely quality. We ate dinner on one night, but we had to eat "High Tea" as children not allowed in the dining room at night. This was fine, as we often eat early. We could have put the girl to bed and eaten on our own, but didn't feel comfortable with that, although I get the impression others do it.

Lovely hotel for couples wanting a nice peaceful break in the countryside.

Thank you for taking the trouble to write about your recent stay with us celebrating your birthday from which we are delighted to see that you enjoyed your break with your family and dog. We dine families with young children in the Library at any time of the evening, it’s only really high tea that is served early and that’s so that parents wishing to dine on their own later have time to put the children to bed beforehand; I’m sorry if there was any confusion about this. We hope to be able to welcome you back to Congham again in the future.
