Stopped off here on way to Thetford Forest at half-term to visit our first National Trust property since becoming members. All I can say is if the rest of the Trust's properties are as good as this one then we have an enjoyable time in store...Ample parking is provided then you are led through the walled gardens to the manor house. It really is a remarkable place, the building and the surrounding moat are amazing. The staff were superb, very knowledgeable and on hand at all times to give further information on a room, a picture or a piece of furniture. We received a warm welcome at both the main entrance to the grounds and also the house itself. The kids were also made a fuss of with both being offered activity sheets and quizzes to do on the way round. This really got them looking at the things in the rooms. Our favourite areas were the priest hole which (unlike most) you were able to climb down into through a narrow trap door and also the tower which was amazing; up spiral brick steps with a fantastic view at the top.
The visit finished off with a look round the fantastic gift shop which had a lovely selection of gifts and souvenirs then we had a drink in the tea room. This has a lovely old-fashioned feel being situated in the old kitchen where the enormous range still sits and on entering you have to ring the bell to be seated. All-in-all well worth a visit.

We enjoyed the garden store led by a National Trust volunteer and the interior was stunning. There were portraits of the family who have lived there and most interesting wall coverings

Really enjoyed this property, great gardens for a walk and a lovely interesting house to look round. Very good staff. Luckily we visited at a quieter time of year. Worth a visit if you are in the area.

Lovely house with plenty of options for a woodland walk. Activities for kids as well. The house is well laid out with opportunities to climb to the roof for great views. Nice tearoom too. Spent about four hours including lunch.

Enjoy the architecture...such brickwork! I really enjoyed the visit...somewhat more informal than many NT great houses.
