Description: We are a grade 2 listed building built as private houses in the 1600's and converted into a pub in 1743. Since that date the premises have retained not just the name but also the licence. We have been independently owned and run since 1994 by our charming landlord Roger. We are in a great riverside spot, lots of interesting naval and nautical memorabilia to come and see and up to six well kept ales from small independent breweries , good value, home style, freshly cooked food, Enjoy a view of The Great Ouse from our raised vinery. or join us in the dining room with our beautiful rustic fireplace. well behaved dogs are also welcome here.

We stopped here for a Sunday lunch, the food was lovely and the pub itself was really nice. It's a proper pub with lots of maritime memorabilia, we would have liked a night out in here but had to leave that afternoon unfortunately. The roast dinner was good for a pub lunch, I would say that the service could have been a bit more friendly but all in all a nice place and we'd go here again.

My husband and I stopped to have a drink and it was a wonderful surprise. Beautiful place, friendly people.you need to have passion to keep a pub in so excellent conditions. Well done. We will be back.
Good sense of humour, good beer, good friends.

If you're interested in cheap, poorly kept beer, and freshly microwaved food, then I would reccomend The Globe up the road. If, however, you want a filling home cooked meal with no frills, and like a decent drink in a clean place, then the Crown & Mitre is your place. Yes, the landlord is -shall we say- a little abrasive, but he is also honest, and will look after anyone that drinks in his establishment. True, he won't give tasters like Wetherspoons, but since he has around five pumps on most of the time (and he buys his beer within it's sell-by date!) five tasters is a full pint!
Special mention must also be made regarding the food. It's not the cheapest in town, but it comes in very large portions, and is always delicious.

Visiting with my husband and 2 friends from Leicestershire. Not a great welcome - off hand Landlord who perhaps thought he was being funny but missed it by miles.... Then my mate who was genuinely interested in the beer requested a taster, which most good pubs would offer, and the landlord replied that he "didn't do tasters"....We only stayed for the one.... The service level that we experienced was shared by a fellow drinker whom had just relocated to Kings Lynne and he also only stayed for the one as the Landlord was anything but welcoming. We did not sample the food on offer as the place was almost in darkness and didn't fill us with enthusiasm for a good meal.
