Firstly - the food was 100%, and clearly a lot of effort (and money) has gone into the refurbishment. Very attractive and well done. Pleasant surroundings and outlook. The main issue surrounded the height of the tables, and the attitude when this was discussed with the manager(?). I am of average height (5'8") and both my wife and I found the very attractive tables around 2" over-height. Interestingly a nearby party also commented on this to each other. A small matter but by the end of the meal it was uncomfortable and we just had to get up. The bill was overcharged ( we had 2 courses and some 'take away' chocolate brownies but were both charged for 3 courses) but we were not actually too bothered about that actually. We did however raise the table issue, explained we were not alone, to the manager who although he acknowledged that other diners had also made similar comments, seemed not only totally disinterested, but sarcastically suggested perhaps he should get the builder (from France or Italy?) to return to saw 2" off. It seemed to us that he really didn't want to hear any criticism at all - odd from such a new undertaking. The staff themselves were very pleasant and helpful although they both fell down as many places do I am afraid to say, in dealing with the table they were serving but always failed to 'scan' the restaurant for other diners requiring some action. In the end having waited for them to return we had to get up and walk out to pay the bill.

All these are minor gripes I accept, and I am sure we shall return (although having in our haste and discomfort omitted to leave a tip - Our apologies that was a genuine mistake - we'll make it up next time) but I can't give it 5 stars on this occasion. Maybe next time...?

Me and my boyfriend went for a meal one evening after hearing about the Norfolk mead having different owners! From all the places I have eaten it was the best service I had ever had, and the food was great as well, well presented, unique and tasted fantastic!
James and Anna were very friendly, welcoming and professional. They made us feel like valuable customers!
Hopefully be coming to stay in the accommodation soon and will defiantly come back to eat also!
Thank you

Lovely English Country Hotel with a small dedicated team
Set down a single track drive behind a lovely village church just 6 or so miles from Norwich.
The rooms are all individual.
The bed and linen and the bathroom were lovely. Very comfortable.

What a stunning hotel to spend my first child free night in for ages! So welcoming with the stylish and calming decor and friendly staff. Lovely open fires and beautiful flowers through out. Cosy bar that you could easily settle into for a glass or two before dinner and creep back into for a night cap afterwards! Delicious food and wines, the breakfast spread surpasses any breakfast I have had in a hotel and it's included in the room price to...a bargain!
Little touches everywhere...white company products in the bathrooms, little glass bottles of fresh milk, complimentary chocolate brownie - attention to detail is paramount. James and Anna have put their heart and soul into this wonderful hotel and it shows. Can't wait to visit again in the summer with my family, already thinking about my pan fried chestnut mushrooms with fresh herbs on toast with a poached egg, yum!

Having been familiar with the "old Norfolk Mead" I was looking forward to visiting the transformed Mead under the new ownership. Visited with my husband last night and we were both overwhelmed with the changes - all positive. The reception area is now bright and welcoming - little touches like an open fire immediately make you feel you are in a hotel that cares about first impressions. The staff were all friendly and efficient and there is a strong "feelgood" that immediately makes you feel you are going to have a special happy evening.

The restaurant area has been thoughtfully furnished with a light and modern feel - chairs also comfortable. All the decor is tasteful and blended well - not out of place with the older style of the building -cleverly chosen and complimenting each other.

The food!! We both chose completely different options. I had the goat's cheese souffle, my husband had the ham hock. Faultless both in presentation and flavour, - as was the "pink duck" and the lamb dish that I chose. Followed by the lemon cheesecake and treacle tart - every course was absolutely perfect (and we are real "foodies" and have high standards when we venture out to restaurants.)

We were served coffee and mint tea in the large (now bright and airy) lounge and even the mint tea was more delicious than usual.

It was good to see the hotel vibrant and buzzing and we are very much looking forward to returning soon and sampling some more delicious options from this very extensive menu. Well done to the new proprietors - they deserve the success they are clearly achieving.

The staff could not have done more to give our group of ladies a delicious stylish afternoon tea and went to great lengths to ensure that all dietary requirements were met. We would highly recommend and having looked at the dinner menu will definitely be returning to give it a try. The refurbishment has been done sympathetically and makes for a delightful comfortable ambiance.
