Amazing piece, incredible to see close up. There is a hidden inscription, I could not find it! Made by one guy who just 'decided to make it'!

No wonder people come from all over the world to see this statue and its companion pieces dotted around the UK as it is a powerful work or art set in a handsome location. We just happened across Tommy as we were on a glorious bike ride around Ryhope, Seaham and adjacent villages. What a fabulous coastline Durham has and Seaham is a haven of interest as well as offering a good beach and typical seaside pleasures. Tommy sits patiently, larger than life and provokes contemplation from his vantage point by the sea. He does not look over the North Sea, rather he exhaustedly stares at his boots as he takes stock of surviving the carnage that was WW1. Impressive and very moving.

A real piece of art/history. I find something new to look at every time I visit. The weariness of the figure is plain to see and transmits more meaning that any book.
