My daughter Rose and I had the best time at Eastshaw Guesthouse but it has taken me this long to write the review because I'm so tech simple about how to do it. Mick and Julie were such excellent, interesting hosts. Mick cooks and bakes like a dream. He had excellent ideas for where to go to beach hunt for glass which had been the reason my daughter wanted to come to Seaham. Our stay was outstanding, the guesthouse commodious, access to the beach so convenient. We absolutely would like to stay here again.

We have just returned from a family visit to Seaham. Mick and Jules are lovely people who made us feel so welcome in their beautiful home. Nothing was too much trouble for them, and the rooms are absolutely gorgeous! (and impeccably clean). Mick's breakfasts are scrumptious and kept us going till teatime! In the evenings we came "home" to a bottle of wine/beer next to the woodburning fire, with chocolates and nibbles, which was bliss after a busy day out in the January cold! We can't wait to return!

We stayed at St Cuthbert's Cottage for the second time over the New Year Period this year. We had really relaxing stay, completely chilled out.

The cottage it's self is in a perfect setting, with a small stream running behind and numerous types of birds flying in and out of the garden very tranquil. The interior of the cottage is so homely and cosy, ideal on a cold winter's day. The cottage has everything you could possibly need. Only thing which could be improved upon from our point of view, is maybe a larger TV screen. I suppose it depends what kind of holiday you are looking for, if you don't stay in on a night time, then this wouldn't be an issue, however, if you just want to chill out in the cottage on a night time, a larger TV would be beneficial.

Although the cottage itself is in a kind of valley and out of the way, just a short distance away is the actual town of Seaham, which has numerous shops, bars and restaurants situated along the sea front. It is a nice walk only takes about 20 minutes. This cottage is an ideal base for exploring County Durham or even further north into Northumberland.

On arrival we received a lovely welcome pack, which included freshly baked bread (baked by Mick himself).

Mick is on the end of the phone whenever you need him.

I would definitely recommend this cottage to both couples and families.

Thank you Mick and Julie for a wonderful holiday.

I have stayed in many 4 and 5 * places on my travels and can confirm that Eastshaw has something special, The welcome from Mick and Jules makes you feel liked you are long lost friends, Even the dog makes you welcome. I have to apologise for not eating all the fabulous breakfast that mick made, I so wanted to finish it. The room is very nice and views are great over the seaham bay. You are even given your own lounge that had a welcoming log fire, I would like to say home from home but I do not have log fires at home so this is better. When I told my wife about Mick's homemade bread she has already commanded that we should stay here when she comes with me as 1st choice.

Room Tip: I feel that all the rooms are good.

We have stayed in lots of good B&Bs over the years, but there are few where we have been made to feel so completely relaxed & at home as at Eastshaw House. The property, the location, the food & the attention to detail all contributed to this experience, but what absolutely made it for us was the warm & welcoming personalities of the host & hostess. Their "sole occupancy" policy meant we had to wait 18 months from "discovering" them on TA to actually getting to stay there, but it also meant that we could really treat their home as though it was our own & that was beyond worth in our opinion. We definitely plan to return, & we are very tempted to try their self catering cottage if we can find friends to accompany us or can stretch our stay to 3 nights. 2 small things future guests may want to bear in mind -: bring a dressing gown as the shower room & loo are, although private, across the corridor; & keep your door firmly shut whenever you're not there or Henry (the adorable black lab) will sniff out anything edible & devour it in your absence - hope he's OK after finishing off the chocolate orange with popping candy!! Many, many thanks Mick & Julie for a wonderful stay

Our three-generational family stayed here for 3 nights in July 2013 to rest and acclimate before our trek along Hadrian's Wall. On that trek we stayed in 7 different B&Bs along the route, but our stay at Eastshaw was by far our favorite.

Everything that we had read in the glowing reviews was true and our stay here far exceeded our already high expectations. From the moment we saw Mick enthusiastically waving to us at the train station to the moment he offered to drop us back on our way out, everything was done with such cheer and care that we felt truly lucky to have found this spot. The to-order breakfasts with fresh bread (sun-dried tomato, feta, etc) and special potato cakes were extraordinary and ample. After cooking and serving such a feast, Mick sat with us each morning for a chat time that was welcoming and engaging. A bottle of chilled wine appeared each evening in the living room where spent time sorting our sea glass treasures. We had three rooms, all beautiful and clean, and as others have noted, a special feature is that we had the house to ourselves with no other guests.

This is truly a find, and so much of one, that you almost hesitate to let others 'in' on the secret in fear that it won't be possible to get a reservation the next time you want to return...which we definitely want to do! A B&B truly run with love and attention, and the best of our UK trip.
