“Home from Home”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 27, 2012

My husband and I spent 2 nights at this most beautiful guesthouse. Warm and welcoming with a lovely atmosphere where nothing was too much trouble. Attention to detail was second to none - wood burning stove in November, what more could you ask for. Cooked breakfast was fabulous as was the fresh home baked bread. And of course to cap the experience there was Henry the dog.
Many thanks from Helen and Jim

Hello Helen.

Thank you for your review.

I'm writing this next to one of the wood burners and considering putting the Christmas decorations up.

I'm glad you enjoyed yourselves and hope Jims mam enjoyed the bread buns.

Have a merry Christmas.

We spent 5 days with Mick and Julie and they made us feel totally at home. Nothing was too much trouble to make us more comfortable. It goes to show that in the end it will always be about people. We have already rebooked. Bob and Pat.

My 13 year old son and I stayed in Mick and Julie's lovely cottage for 3 nights whilst visiting family in the area. We have previously stayed in their guesthouse in Seaham which is also very impressive. This was our first time at the cottage which I would highly recommend as it is tastefully decorated, clean and very homely. The cottage is well equipped and in a lovely location with a river view from the kitchen window. Mick and Julie have clearly put considerable thought and great attention to detail in decorating and furnishing the cottage. Thoughtful touches such as bottle of wine for mum and bag of sweets for son together with a plentiful supply of logs for the woodburners and fresh flowers made this a delightful stay. We look forward to returning.

We can't wax lyrical enough about our recent stay with Mick, Jules, Henry (the dog) and Chilton (the cat). Such a warm welcome, offering to help with luggage, and showing us to our wonderful spacious, light and airy, beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean and well appointed rooms with everything you could possibly need - welcome tray, hairdryer, trouser press and ironing board, tv/dvd player AND a selection of classic dvd's to watch should the fancy take you - not to mention a lovely comfortable bed and digital clock with large display (perfect for those of us who can no longer rely on our peepers alone to see what the time is!) The bathroom was also spotlessly clean, and the shower was fab - really hot water with good pressure and no problems with the drainage (somewhat different to a recent stay in a Marriott hotel!!) Mick's breakfast kept us contented until almost tea-time and there was such a lovely range of things to choose from - but the 'piece de resistance' has to be Mick's fantastic, fresh every morning, homemade bread. Yummy. You just have to go and stay there - even if you have no reason to visit Seaham (as we did) - well actually, Eastshaw Guesthouse is a damn good reason to visit Seaham! Mick and Jules hospitality is something you don't get in many places nowadays sadly, and on top of everything else I've mentioned, the fact you have use of the lounge with lovely wood-burning stove, a welcome tipple awaiting your return in the evening (or a softer alternative if you prefer) and sole booking of this most beautiful of homes hopefully sums up why we will be returning to stay each time we visit our family. Mick and Jules are just fantastic ambassadors for Seaham - so please consider them first when looking for accommodation in the area.

Room Tip: No need - all rooms are lovely!

Just enjoyed a wonderful week at Mick and Jules' St Cuthbert's cottage in Dalton-le-Dale. Great hosts (thanks for the sea glass tips), wonderfully warm and comfortable cottage, incredible welcome pack, pretty coastline. We will be back!

Excellent weekend at the Cottage in Dalton le Dale. I'm always highly impressed with the constant high standards on offer.( This has the same owners as Eastshaw!). Seaham in my view is a hidden gem of the North East!

Returning to Seaham for a family wedding we were very lucky to meet two wonderful people, Mick and Jules who offer Eastshaw Guesthouse as a place to stay. Without a doubt it is the most comfortable and friendly place me my wife Teresa and son Bradley have stayed in.

From the very first handshake we were made to feel very much at home. Everything about Eastshaw is perfect. The food, including fresh home made bread every morning down to the glass of wine in the evening were absolutely superb. Mick, Jules and Henry will most certainly be seeing us again.

Thank you to you both from a very very satisfied Wilkinson family.
