This was the stop of day 2 of our coast to coast cycle ride. Our bicycles were stored in the purpose built cycle store at the end of the garden. Elaine then welcomed us in with a big pot of tea and slice of cake. Perfect!
The cottage has a very comfortable guest lounge with a wood burner and racks for drying your boots - we didn't need it in August but it would be wonderful to go back in the winter. There lounge and bedroom had lovely views across the surrounding countryside. The cottage is right on the edge of Kirkby Stephen and is very quiet but only a 10 minute walk into the centre of the village.
The bedroom was charming, very individually decorated with a large bathroom with roll top bath & shower. Lots of proper soaps and shampoos were provided.
Breakfast, ordered the night before, was very good, a large selection of cereals, fruit and yoghurt. The full English breakfast was delicious, only let down by a poor quality sausage and bacon.
Highly recommended - would definitely visit again.

My husband and I stayed here twice on our recent Coast to Coast walk. The welcome we received was second to none. Even though we had an early start on both occasions the breakfast was on time and really good. Nothing was too much trouble. Would highly recommend it.

This is a delightful B&B. The hostess, Elaine, is gently charming, with a lovely sense of humour and a smile to match. Downstairs a comfortable lounge, books and dining room. Upstairs the bedrooms. Some wonderful touches; rubber ducks available for the bath; face cloths (always a sign of a place that cares; a copy of Wainrights' Coast to Coast; a beautiful hand-made staircase ( made by Peter). Breakfast excellent.

The only reason this is not 5 stars is because the accommodation, while *extremely* comfortable, does not quite make it into the luxurious category. However, if what you are looking for is a comfortable place where you will immediately feel at home with a helpful and charming hostess, put Bollam Cottage on your itinerary. Extremely highly recommended. We will be back.

Room Tip: Note: the room with a bath doesn't have a double bed and vice versa. Make your choice!

Fantastic welcome and hospitality throughout our all too brief stay. By far the best B & B on the trip, just looking for an excuse to come back. Food was superb, Peter and Elaine couldn't do enough for us and the location, off the main drag, ensured a restful night which wasn't afforded at other accomodation in the town. If you're going to Kirkby Stephen you must stay here. Steve H.

We were greeted by Elaine with tea ( in a pot)and homemade cake.

She is a perfect hostess and it felt like home after our day in the saddle.

Pete is a cycle enthusiast so there is a locked shed for your bikes and lots of tales to share

We had full use of the lounge in the evening so we were able to catch up with the apprentice.

A beautiful home close to the village centre, five minutes from the pubs for supper.

A definite favourite for us

Room Tip: Our room overlooked the fells and had lovely views. The e suite was first class

Can't really add to previous reviews. Elaine is an excellent hostess, and if you are doing the C2C walk ask he to tell you about the alternative route from Bollam cottage to rejoin the main route.
Very pretty woodland and river alternative for about 2 miles.
