Stopped overnight with a mate in a twin room, both to old to have the top bunk. If you think Hostel you'll be delighted - if you think Hotel you'll likely be disappointed.
Room was hostel style and we opted to have Denise (owns and runs the place I think) cook a fine Full English breakfast for us. I would be back there like a shot if I ever needed to stay over in KS again.

Room Tip: We stopped in a room that had "Warden" on the door it had twin beds and an en-suite shower...

4 blokes on a mountain biking break in the area couldn't of wanted anything more for £20 a head.
Clean and quiet with the sort of facilities you would expect.
We chose to eat out in the town in the evening.
The owner Denise is certainly 'on the ball' and is willing to help with any aspect of your stay. i can't think of many people who would come in at 7.30am on a Sunday morning to cook 4 'full Englishes' for an additional £5 a head (well worth it!)
If you want more than this you will need to pay more - 'simples!'

Just wanted to say a huge thank you for looking after our group on their epic cycle from Glasgow to Maidenhead in 3 days.

The accommodation massively exceeded our expectations. What an amazing building, it's a converted church so the dining area has original church height and a lot of character.

The facilities were excellent with plenty of showers, secure area for bikes, really flexible kitchen facilities. And what a delicious (much needed) home made meal.

There were people in our group who had never stayed in a youth hostel before and were fairly sceptical about what awaited them - especially having cycled 150 miles from Glasgow the same day! However, with Denise's personal touch and the excellent facilities were all were suitably impressed at the accommodation and would recommend and visit again. This isn't a hotel but with advanced planning you could have your own room, it was very clean and there is a communal kitchen, with bread, milk, jam etc which definitely beats the kettle with UHT milk you often find in budget hotels.

Perfect if you're a big group (we were 10) for walking or cycling in the stunning Yorkshire Dales.

Massive thank you to Denise for getting up at the inhuman hour of 6am to feed us porridge and bacon sandwiches!

Thanks again.

Good luck for the future.

Room Tip: Book early and buy a couple of beds so you get a room to yourself - it's cheap enough to still b...

Denise is one of the friendlyest hosts I had until now, her hostle is nice and has a lot of space to relax after a great walk throuh the fantastic countryside!!! In the morning you wake up, might get a glims of the 8 perrets (living in this area) and than have a continantel breakfast down in the main room. My reccoment is: bring a good map and a book for the evening.
A great place to stay for exploring this part of England=)

10 of us rode the W2W coast to coast ride on our bikes, after 80 miles of cycling we turned up to the hostel where we had an amazing meat pie dinner waiting for us after we had prearranged it on the phone. There are hot powerful showers and a comfy bed. We could help ourselves to breakfast and tea in the kitchen the next morning. The land lady was very nice. If you require a quick one night stop on your adventure then this place is ideal.

After trekking the shap to kirkby stephen leg, battered by sleet and horizontal winds,a hot shower and bed were the priorities.
Denises hostel fitted the bill perfectly.a real gem of a place ,run by a delightful lady.charming old church, converted to a hostel.far better than some hotels i have slept in.

Stayed here after a long slog through the Yorkshire dales. The place was perfect for groups and single travelers alike. We all had plenty of space to stretch our legs and enjoy a brew and a chat with the lovely host. A bleary night of local ale, some cheap wine from the shop opposite finished with a very nice send off breakfast and we were on our way.
Thank you Denise for making our stop one of our highlights.
