Called in off the road and had an excellent experience here. Staff all very polite and professional. Beautiful room with rainfall shower and bath in the room. Enormous bed, gorgeous view and very good food. Couldn't fault it and look forward to returning. Great value late deal for dinner bed and breakfast.

Just had weekend break at The Royal...
Arrived mid afternoon and the hotel was fairly quiet then.Reception is a cubby hole which is not manned so had to hang about in hallway and wait for someone to appear.Once someone arrived check in was quick and we were handed our keys and told 'lift and stairs that way'!! Not the sort of reception I was expecting and this definitely let's hotel down-normally in hotels you get a cheery welcome and then get shown to your room-maybe this needs to be looked at??

Room was very nice overlooking town square-was warm, comfy and well furnished.Very large walk in shower and bath in bedroom so all very nice.No bathrobes in room as advertised so rang down to ask about them.Lady I spoke to didn't think they did them(!!!!) but would ask-approx 10 mins later knock on door and one bathrobe was delivered.Towels leave a lot to be desired as large and fluffy they are not!!Ours could have been used as sandpaper they were that rough!!

Ate in Brasserie in evening and the meal was beautiful-service bit haphazard but that was probably because there was a very big party dining that evening.Breakfast on both mornings was excellent-plenty of choice and lots of tea/coffee & toast.

Overall pleasant stay if a touch overpriced for B&B-would I stay again?? Probably.

Problem with parking as no car park-you have to drive round town for a space and you always have one eye on clock as its all pay & display and very active wardens!!That said, don't let it put you off.

Stayed here with another couple. Rooms are very, very comfortable and clean. Lovely feather and oen duvets and feather pillows, heaven!

The staff are amazing, extremely polite and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble.

Highly recommended.

Room Tip: They are all lovely.

This building is a wonderful combination of traditional and modern, and the decor is impressive throughout. Each room is unique, and it pays to spend a few minutes on their web-site choosing a room which meets your needs.
The hotel is located in the heart of the town, and is a perfect location from which to explore the town on foot, or the area by car. Parking is limited, however, and you need some luck to find a free space in the town square parking opposite the hotel.
The restaurant is excellent, and the service friendly and attentive.
Wi-fi access is free - available in public areas only.
Our stay here was for the wedding of friends and we will definitely visit again. We cannot praise the hotel enough.

Room Tip: See the descriptions of the rooms on the web-site before choosing a room. We asked for a room with s...

We visited the hotel for a one night stay on the 19th April as part of their £123 a night deal for DBB. We were allocated room number 2 which was a large room with views over the town square and a very large bathroom with separate shower and slipper bath.
we had a lovely drink in the bar on arrival and enjoyed a relax after a stressful 15 minutes driving around trying to find a parking space (it was market day) and not paying the rather steep £15 for 3 days! (we were only there for one night!)
We ate in the restaurant at night - we didn't fancy anything off the set menu so selected from the A La Carte menu. We both had the potato and leek soup to start which was lovely - the bread was delicious! My husband had the steak with home made chips (which were gorgeous!!!) and he said it was cooked as he asked and I had the Coq au Vin with creamed truffle potatoes - it was lovely but a little rich for me. We were both too stuffed to enjoy a pudding, in hindsight we should have forfeited the starter! We enjoyed a coffee in the bar after our meal.
The next morning we had breakfast and the hotel was very quiet - it seemed like there was only another couple eating - it lacked atmosphere and could have done with some background music. Breakfast was ok. Our first pot of coffee had the granules in it - the filter on the cafetiere obviously wasn't working but that was changed no problem. The breakfast was definately missing baked beans!!! - why oh why do places not offer this!!!! - without them it was very dry!!! - if I am being really picky the poached egg was overcooked but other than that was fine - I certainly wouldn't have paid the £12 they charged if you didn't stay over!

All of the staff were lovely and helpful - the young lad at breakfast could do with a bit of extra training to be a bit more proactive - i had to ask for ketchup when this should have been offered.
Also the table with the yoghurts etc on looked like a bit of an afterthought!

I would stay again as the rooms, service and food were lovely - just a few niggles!

One thing to note is that there is no parking - if you come on market day you cannot park opposite the hotel which may be a problem for some.

Room Tip: rooms at the front have a lovely view of the square but all are nice.

I like the Royal, the food can be good and the beer is not bad either especially when they have Lancaster Blond on - prefer it to Wainwright. The niuggle I have with this establishment is the service, they just dont seem to get it right. I think that it is simply down to having too few staff on duty on the bar. 1 more person or a bigger bar would improve matters some what.
Their prices are top end for Kirkby Lonsdale - not sure that their package justifies that price point.

Stayed here overnight on business and found the room large and comfortable and the staff helpful. The bar is nice and the restaurant has great food. The hotel is located in the centre of kirkby lonsdale in some lovely scenery. Can't wait to go back, i'm returning on business twice in April and May - it's a tough life!
