Saw the menu and thought it hummed of something slightly different than your normal pub grub. Had a chat with the owner (as my daughter played with his granddaughter in a relaxed side 'sofa' room') who seems to have lifted the whole place to be a 'place to eat'. A friendly, family run and family orientated pub, relaxed atmosphere with fantastic professional service. Good ales and even a pump of Thatchers Gold for us cider drinkers.
A Chef who is classically trained and it shows in the food. I don't normally do the whole drinks, 3 courses and then coffee but just couldn't stop ordering. Is it worth a couple of extra quid per main course compared to your average pub costs?? Easily! We spent the best part of the afternoon chatting and relaxing and are definitely thinking of an excuse to visit again.

We had a lovely evening meal here. We booked a table for 6pm on a Friday night in the bar area as we were bringing the dog with us. We were met by friendly staff, seated promptly and only waited 15-20 mins for our food. We highly recommend the pork shoulder, cooked to perfection and just fell off the bone. Our dog was warmly welcomed with a huge bonio biscuit and water bowl. The premises were beautiful, very clean and modern decor. A lovely place to eat and not too far off the beaten track. Will certainly be going there again!

We had lunch there today, four of us. Lovely clean and welcoming pub, real fires. Our order was taken at the table and drinks brought to us. Struggled to choose from the menu as everything sounded so good. We shared two starters the salt and pepper chicken wings were crispy and delicious. The home made scotch egg with mushroom ragu and panceta was fantastic - great combination of flavours were disappointed there was not more of us as we wanted to try the haggis and neep croquets and the whole baked cheese. Mains we had Venison with dauphonise potatoes and red wine, caramilised onions lovely, the home made chicken kiev with cheese coleslaw and home made chips was exactly that, home made, juicy chicken not too much garlic, yum yum. The steak pie was a slice of streak pie, shortcrust top and bottom, the steak really tender and the gravy really really good. We were full but could not resist the puddings, apple tart tatan, lemin curd cheesecake and raspberry creme brulee all to die for.

Honestly, go there. Best pub grub around. Current people been running it for 6 months, and they are doing a great job.

Had an evening meal on Good Friday at The Pheasant as friends hadnt been for many years. At a first glance the menu seems small, but theres a good selection to keep most people happy. The home made scotch egg for starter was excellent as were the main courses, the halibut was done to perfection as was the venison and shoulder of pork- which came with the most amazing piece of crackling. The puddings were also very good too. Will be returning soon, gourmet pub food at standard pub prices.

Stayed two nights over Easter 2013. Had room number 1, four poster bed. Lovely room with excellent facilities and nice bathroom. Cosy little room, centrally heated with an extra heater to warm it up some more on chilly nights. Tea and coffee in room with som lovely top quality biscuits. Only downside to the room is a lack of electric sockets, had to fiddle around taking lamp and kettle out to charge up the iPhone and iPad.

Breakfast superb with all fresh local produce. The full English was good quality ingredients with lovely Cumberland sausage. Coffee in caffetier was excellent.

Had Dinner on the Saturday night, very nice, especially the sweet, strawberry creme brûlée, yummy. Good selection of beers at the bar, I went for the local beer, very good. Think it was called Borough, but was pronounced Broom I was assured by the bar tender.

Cannot fault the hotel or the friendly service. They make an effort to ensure you enjoy your stay. Lovely rural setting, plenty of car parking, easy to find.

I note from previous reviews the hotel is under new management The week prior to arrival I received a call from the hotel telling me the dining room for Good Friday was filling up fast and "did I want a table?" as it happened, I didn't. But this shows a level of service one would not get from high end hotels and certainly put me on to the fact that superb service is what this hotel and restaurant offers. They do what they do well and deserve the success they will surely get if they keep to the high standards.

Room Tip: Room 1, nice and big, four poster bed, plenty of wardrobe and draw space.

My husband and I ate at the Pheasant Inn last night on a very chilly Good Friday. The place was busy, the ambience warm and friendly. We had a drink in the beautifully decorated bar as we chose our food, being given plenty of time to consider the menu and snoop around the cosy snug and modern restaurant. I started with the home made scotch egg which was soft and herby, served with a very crispy piece of Parma ham and a tasty mushroom ragout. Hubby had the pressed rabbit which was delicious and meaty and wonderfully accompanied with a sweet chutney and spicy vegetables. The mains were better still! My halibut was fried to perfection, but the locally sourced venison was the show stopper, so tender and flavoursome mmmmmm. Well done Duncan for an amazing menu and thank you Heather for your incredible generosity. We will be back!

My 'Other Half' and i stayed here for 1 night, having booked it when the place we really fancied was unavailable. This turned out to be very fortuitous, as it meant we have found a little gem of a place!
We arrived, after a brief wander in Kirkby Lonsdale, almost frozen to the core, and were welcomed into a lovely lounge with a roaring fire where we rapidly made ourselves at home! Due to several weather-related cancellations, we were to be the only guests for the night. We had booked the four-poster room, but found it to be very chilly, despite having an extra heater provided. We were speedily moved into an even more attractive (and much warmer) room. Both rooms were very comfortable with well stocked hospitality trays, nice toiletries and lots of lovely fluffy towels provided.
We chose to have dinner in the bar, next to the log-burning stove, rather than in the restaurant,
and every element was delicious, from the duck, pheasant and venison terrine, via roast cod on a saffron risotto, to plum crumble tart with almond frangipane. My OH thoroughly enjoyed his meal too. The food portions were generous and wine and other drinks were reasonably priced.
The next morning, we had high expectations at breakfast time - and were not disappointed by the full English, which, despite our being the only guests, was served in the restaurant.
The Pheasant has been recently refurbished, and is very tastefully decorated and accessorised. The staff are friendly, welcoming and efficient. It is a lovely place to stay.
We will certainly return.

Room Tip: The four-poster bed is VERY high!
