“Fabulous Dinner, Bed and Breakfast!”
Reviewed April 1, 2013

We booked a room for Good Friday with dinner. The welcome was warm, the staff friendly. Had our evening meal which was superb. The menu though not huge was varied. The quality of the food was outstanding and ingredients beautifully cooked. The service was efficient, yet not intrusive; we were not rushed, yet we didn't wait. Our room was very comfortable, though the shower was not so powerful. Our breakfast the next morning was again faultless. I would recommend this place to anyone. It is most conveniently situated just off the M4, and with stunning country views. What a pleasure to wake up to the views. The staff couldn't have been more friendly and really made the stay very special. We shall certainly stay here again - family and friends all in the area - so ideal.

Not long back from dinner at the newly refurbished Pheasant. Wow!

First impressions were good. A friendly welcome and escorted to our table. I will point out I only reserved a table at 6:30pm and as its a short drive from Aldbourne we arrived dead on 7 for our reservation. We'd had a look at the menu online before arriving so we knew what was available tonight.
Drinks promptly ordered and served we chose pretty quickly. First up was assorted breads with an olive oil and balsamic dip. The breads were fresh, and a nice varied selection. Thoroughly enjoyable.
Next up was a sharing platter of seafood. Mackerel pâté, crab mayonnaise, king prawns (HUGE!!!), smoked salmon, more bread and salad. Oh, and a nice unexpected addition of 2 oysters. It's was absolutely gorgeous.
For main my partner had the sirloin steak, cooked medium rare, and I had slow cooked pork belly. With the steak came massive hand cut chips, peppercorn sauce and rocket. The pork was on a bed of mash, with a nice piece of broccoli done with garlic. We also ordered sides of minted peas and samphire. What can I say apart from it was a culinary delight.

To sum up, the food was amazing, the service attentive but not hovering over us, the decor was clean and tasteful, the ambience great and the toilets spotless. Can't fault the experience and I know we will be visiting again. Well done The Pheasant and thanks for a great meal

We visited for Sunday lunch.
It is very tastefully decorated, and the food was very well presented.
However,I thought the menu was very limited, with no fish option and I found it a struggle to choose something i liked the sound of.
The service was very slow and not that friendly which was disappointing.
The food tasted nice but not amazing!

We booked for a group of 5 to stay overnight at the Pheasant Inn, due its convenient location to family, M4, less than 1 hr to Heathrow (on a Saturday)and Newbury. We had stayed here before, but the Pheasant is under new management and what well run Pub/Inn this is. Overall the staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. The accommodation was excellent, veryclean and modern rooms, equipped with everything you need -Tea, coffee, water etc. Probably better than most hotels. Breakfast was excellent, great choice, full english, really whatever you wanted and the service was excellent. The Pheasant really is a pleasant overnight experience, with a lovely bar which has a nice friendly atmosphere. We didn't eat in the restaurant but friends did and they feedback again was excellent. Nothing was really too much trouble for the staff here, they really couldn't do enough for us. Highly recommended for anyone looking excellent accommodation and good food in the Berkshire area.

My wife and I stayed here last week as their first guests after they recently took over the Pheasant. We stayed on a friday night and arrived early afternoon. The welcome from Kellie was the first of many pleasant things at the Pheasant, nothing was too much trouble, a choice of rooms, which were all up-to a great standard, clean, spacious and with warm decoration.
We were late for lunch but they accommodated us and asked the chef to stay longer, which he did. The evening meal was just as nice, with a great selection of good, well cooked favourites.
All of the staff were pleasant and smiling and the bar Manager was very attentive.
We would certainly stay with them again if and when we are passing, either for lunch or another overnights stay.
Good luck.

Room Tip: Any of them!!

The best thing about The Pheasant is its extremely convenient location by J14 of the M4. We chose it as a good mid-point to meet friends for lunch. We did not stay here, so this review is just for the restaurant.

The food was all fine, but expensive for what it was at £11 to £17.50 for a main course, and the choice wasn't great. If you are vegetarian the only option was an omelette, and I think a pub should offer more than just one type of sandwich at lunchtime. Was also disappointed that not enough vegetables were served with the main courses, there was no option to order extra veg or a salad, and nothing seasonal on the menu. However the chips were good, and so were the puddings - sticky toffee pud went down well.

The service was rather distracted although friendly enough, and the room and ambience were nice. If this place raised it's game a bit it could be a great destination for lunch, worth a special journey, but I don't think we'll rush back.

Booked the Pheasant Inn on the off chance as we had never been there before and was very pleasantly surprised. Easy to find, well signposted very close to M4. The accommodation was excellent far superior to some Hotels we have been to, every need was catered for. The bre, akfast was superb very well cooked and served piping hot, nothing was too much trouble. We would highly recommend the Pheasant Inn.

Room Tip: Choose room number 2 very spacious
