This is my favourite restaurant in Spain, period. I am Spanish, leaving in the UK for 25 years and coming back from time to time. I have been coming to this restaurant since I was a young university student and then al my adult life, on and off. I have seen the old legendary Mercader times and the current impressive Subiros ones. Every year I go there at least once if I manage to be in the area. I can’t recognise some of the negative comments, For me this restaurant has the best, impressive cuisine in the area and the land. Service is old fashion and history is quietly present within the walls. The ‘new Catalan cuisine’ started there. That was ‘the place to go’ when there was no El Bulli or other modern extravagance. It is a bit of best kept secret, other than for ‘loyal people’ like myself going there for years. It is in a main road and not in a 'sexy place'...This is high quality cuisine for me. Why or how they lost a Michelin star a few year ago is beyond my comprehension, but there must be some hidden story. If you love food you must go, Take your time, ask questions, The menu is a combination of traditional and modern Catalan all in one. My number one. I may be biased (!) but I have a fair long list of restaurants in my life and this is still ‘must go’... I always bring my two children and my wife (I guess I have to check if everything is still in place...!)
