This hotel could be absolutely phenomenal however so many minor points let it down! I travelled with my wife and then 8 month old baby.

Firstly why it’s not an AI:

> Deposits for towels
> Have to hire an iron
> Pay for a safe
> Sports bar in the complex is not AI, everything costs money - the barman and sports was bang on though!
> Indian we heard was nice, again more €
> Bouncy castle and popcorn in the entertainment centre I think was €5+

However the staff were so so dedicated! It’s obviously the greedy management who let the hotel down.

We arrived on a last minute deal and was shown to our room, 2 separate lifts to a high room at the back of the complex. Lovely and quiet but there are not that many lifts. With a young baby and his luggage lifts are no fun every time you need to go to the room. However the room did have CBeebies which was light relief!

For breakfast from our room (I think was 1527), we had to take stairs or THREE LIFTS FOR BREAKFAST. Horrendous with a young baby and pram. There is no alternative, despite asking. Plus for a baby friendly hotel breakfast buffet is 7.30 onwards. Evening buffet is 6.30 onwards so your night time routine like ours was massively out of sync.

If you have a pram and try to get down to the bottom Costa Adeje pool, swing to the right of the hotel, it looks like a road, but this is a slope that takes you round the hotel and all the way to the bottom pool. The only other way is to traverse the multiple lifts on different floors and levels to get there - madness.

Food: The buffet and its staff were extremely good. Waiters with all our son were superb every day. The buffet had everything, breakfast even had a gluten free section! From fresh pancakes and eggs how you liked to fruit, smoothies, salads, yoghurts, cereals etc. Quality was amazing and choice so good, any moaners are doing so for the sake of it and I’ve been many places abroad.

The a la cartes were superb. Brazilian was by far the best, however they are very quick to put ‘paid for’ menus in front of you.

The snack bar by the pool is amazing as is Maria behind it - so good with everyone. Here you can help yourself to soft drinks, coffees from the machine, San Miguel, sangria and wines. Maria will help with orders fro pizza, burgers, hot dogs, chips, chicken mayo toasties, ice cream etc! They have a help yourself with salad at lunch times too. Great service!

Entertainment: Didn’t see any although we heard it slightly from our balcony when junior was asleep so that was great. There is usually a singer underneath lobby where you can also sit in the terrace overlooking the bay. Pool cost €2 a game which is an absolute joke. I also saw €’s for 10mins on kids Xbox machines which was an absolute joke aswell - poor kids. There is crazy golf but didn’t get a chance to play.

Room: No safe unless you pay. No iron unless you pay. Not friendly for washing baby’s so he came with me in the shower bless him. TV was okay, few English channels - mainly CBeebies. Maid always cleaned the room and left water, soft drinks and x2 San Miguel’s in the fridge. Plenty of storage and room.

Pools: The pools weren’t heated so I imagine they not bearable in colder months. Entertainment team always try to keep people entertained, very friendly. There is a ping pong table too.

Sun lounger reservations: Needs sorting. We saw this scenario many times whilst we were there. Rule is no reservations until 8am. People would put their towels down before that time and go for breakfast. We saw a pool guy remove towels daily before 8am and place together next to the snack bar. New people would sit on the sun loungers, people who’d placed their towels on before 8am would return and and fights nearly broke out daily because nobody knew it was the pool guy removing towels!!

Location: Taxis needed everywhere. No beach and no local bars, restaurants or even walks. Superb with a young baby who needs walks to nod off in his pram. So everyday I did loops round the pool area / and or down the ridiculous slopes to the sister hotel Costa Adeje.

There is a gym, it has x2 spin bikes, x2 treadmills, a cable station plus a multi purpose weights machine with 2 stations around it. It’s tiny and the 2 times I went, it was rammed. Take your running shoes and head along the coast trail towards Adeje.

I wouldn’t stay here again, stay in Adeje or Las Americas self catering. Better to eat out with more options. This isn’t an AI so don’t pay over the odds, especially with a young baby.

Dear guest,

we thank you very much for your detailed opinion about your stay at Sunlight Bahia Principe Tenerife.

It is very nice to read how much you enjoyed our offer at the buffet as well as the snackbar.

We feel sorry to read that your experience in our hotel has not been very satisfactory as you expected a different location and some extras like safety box and Sportsbar to be included. We would like to inform our future guests that Swimming-pool towels are for free but with a deposit of 10€ each.

As for our pools we want to point out that there is one pool per hotel heated from November - May.

We recommend to try any of the Grand or Luxury Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts in Mexico, Dominican Republic or Jamaica or also our new hotel in Tenerife South, Fantasia Bahia Principe Tenerife.

Best Regards,
Nicole Bartsch

We chose the Bahia Principe Tenerife only a few weeks before departure as they had vacancies that matched the school half-term holiday for our 7-year-old grandson. The hotel was reasonably priced and, despite it being 4* rated, we did not have high expectations. We were to be very pleasantly surprised!

Check-in was fairly speedy and we were quite impressed with the overall appearance of the hotel. We were shown to our family suite, which was on the smallish side but quite adequate. Immaculately clean and appearing to be recently updated, we were delighted with everything except for the rather inadequate air conditioning which meant that the room was always on the warm side.

We had arrived in time for evening dinner and were pleased with the well laid out and appointed buffet restaurant and the fact that our grandson easily found something which he liked. Wow; could this be true? It was! There was always a good selection of food. The tables, despite it being a buffet, were always laid out with clean cloths, cutlery, glasses, etc – a very pleasing touch – and the staff and service were excellent.

The all-inclusive bar, featured an expansive indoor seating area and seating outside, on the terrace where there was live music in the evenings. Staff and entertainment were both very good and the drinks were of a good standard - not like some watered-down versions that as we had experienced in other hotels. The routine of dinner, followed by a few drinks on the terrace became an established routine for the duration of our stay and the variety of hot and cold beverages, which were suitable for our grandson, enabled us to ensure that he was taking enough liquid and kept him immensely happy
.
It is worth noting that, in addition to the buffet restaurant, four a la carte restaurants – Asian, Brazilian Rodizio, Italian and Mexican were available. Our favourite was the Asian, but we were also satisfied with the Italian and Brazilian restaurants (our grandson did not like Mexican food, so we never tried their offering).

There are 3 pools available at this hotel, children’s, heated and unheated. The sun lounger situation was rather cramped, with most people aiming for the heated pool (late May, 2019). It was noted that, despite warnings from the management, guests were reserving loungers from, certainly, as early as 7 am. On one occasion the pool staff did remove towels from unattended beds – causing surprise and consternation from the early bed baggers. My thoughts are that this should have happened every day!

The entertainment and animation staff, from both the hotel and from Thomas Cook (who we had booked through) were very good and tried hard to keep everyone (especially the children) occupied – should they wish it. Thomas Cook also provided a kid’s club, for the very young and another for older children.

The Staff, the entertainment, the facilities, the food and beverages and even the other guests far exceeded our expectations, and where we had some early concerns, we found that we needn't have worried. We were able to relax. Our grandson was extremely well catered for and the hotel was safe for him!

It is worth mentioning that the facilities of the sister hotel, immediately adjacent – the Bahia Principe Adaje are also available to guests at this hotel – with many more (and larger pools) and a shared “Village Square” area.

The main drawback was that there was nothing to do in the immediate vicinity of the hotel - no shops, no restaurants, no bars! This was not a problem for our grandson, however. He made new friends and was always playing crazy golf or archery or football or tennis and he wore grandad out, walking around the lava flows and looking for various rocks - a routine that pleased him enormously.

There are a variety of attractions within a short taxi trip and the hotel staff will be only too pleased to point you in the right direction.

For extremely good value for money and quality, we would thoroughly recommend this hotel for families. Thank you to all the staff!

Room tip: Choose Pool View High Floor - will provide sea view too!

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome. The bell boy who insisted in taking our cases was very friendly.
Our room 15426 was spacious and very clean, if not a little dated. The beds are very comfortable. The patio outside is massive, but a word of warning do not shut the door when you are outside as it locks and you are stuck on the patio, this happened on our first night. The view over the pool and the sea was great.
The food was varied and plentiful. We did not try any of the Al A Carte options as we preferred to eat at our own pace on the terrace. Some of the themed nights were great with a great choice of dishes. The fish was very good every day.
The pool area is great if not a little noisy when they start to play bingo, but Hey Ho they are only having fun.Sun beds there was not problem getting a bed, but i suppose half term had just finished. It's great to see the pool man go round and take all the towels of the reserved beds and put them in a pile before 08:00 therefore leaving more choice of beds. Did hear a few gripes about this, but you get told no towels left unattended before 08:00.
The night time entertainment is just OK. The drinks flow freely and are of good quality.
The thing that impressed me, was the cleanliness of the whole hotel. I woke up early one morning and watched as the pool boy washed every umbrella/sun shade. The cleaners were busy all day. Even saw one polishing the fire extinguishers. The gardens are immaculate and well keep. It seems to me that the staff have a pride in their job. well Done
Yes it is a bit remote, but if want a relaxing week away then this is the place to head to. Well done to every one and thank you for a great holiday. As Arnold says "We will be back"
Cheers
Martin and Vanessa.

Room tip: Upper Floor pool view.

We chose this hotel on the afternoon of arriving in Tenerife as an alternative to the original hotel we booked which had been an awful experience. Therefore, this review is based on us as a family having experienced a terrible hotel and how amazing moving to this hotel was in comparison. This hotel made our holiday great. Staff are friendly and helpful, great kids club and entertainment, a spacious and clean resort, rooms are very comfortable, restaurants offer variety and pool areas are safe for children.
