“Recent holiday”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

We have recently (26/10) returned from a ten night holiday at this hotel. From the moment we arrived the reception, staff unloaded our suitcases, took our passports and sat us down in the opulent lounge area. We we given champagne whilst the booking in procedures were carried out and the director of the hotel welcomed us. We were given a lovely room on the bottom floor with a patio and our luggage was taken to our room. Please note that the restaurant ,lounges bars etc in this hotel are at the top on level six but the gardens and pools are at the bottom on level one. The food in the dining room was excellent and plentiful and the service excellent but please during your stay book at least one meal at the Krystal restaurant which is covered by your half board package as the service meal and view are fantastic. We would return to this hotel in a heartbeat. Our only criticism was probably more to do with the guests as sunbeds wer reserved before dawn by people in their nightwear and some not used for the rest of the day. This however is a common problem.

Stayed here for the fourth time in October. Standards as good as ever although I do wish it was an adults only hotel. There weren't many children but they made up in volume what they lacked in numbers. Food quality was excellent - unlike a previous reviewer we did have prawns and smoked salmon on a few evenings. We had a 3rd floor room with a sea view which we pre booked and paid for which seems to guarantee that you get the room type that you want. Will definitely return.

We were there last July and liked it so much we thought we would give it another chance and we were so glad we did.
On arrival we were given a very nice ground floor room with the garden view which we think is sometimes as nice as a sea view as it is very quiet and relaxing. We were also given as before some fruit and champagne in the room to greet us when we returned to the room on the second day.

The rooms are kept immaculate and you get all the towel craft from the maids.

The grounds are immaculate and the staff are continually clearing up even the smallest articles from the walkways and pool areas.

The pools are cleaned each day by a guy who literally gets into the pools and cleans the pool sides. The sloping entry into one of the pools is ideal for people of a certain age and less accomplished swimmers.

The garden gates (with key swipes for guests) give entry onto the public walkways where you can get the cooler sea breeze and walk as far as you like by the sea. There is a small beach outside the hotel which is adequate for the occasional paddle or swim. and other beaches along the public walkways.

During the lunch period you can pass the time in the main pool restaurants or by sitting in the hotel beach bar any time and taking in the sea views.

Wonderful sun sets from the terrace which is on the 6th floor, also the reception floor, as the hotel is upside down with the pool areas on the 1st.

The restaurants for breakfast (sit where you like) and evening meal (allocated seats with general option to move on request) serve a great variety of food very well prepared.

The service everywhere is really 5 star as the staff cannot do enough for you and always with a smile.

Negatives, there always is and ours was that we had to come home, will try and go again next year

Room Tip: Most rooms are good but we like the ground floor family rooms

My wife & I have just returned from 10 days' at the Riu Palace. As reported so many times previously it is a great hotel in a super, quiet, area. The staff go out of their way to fix any little problems we had & the choice of food was magnificent. We saw, what I would say was, a world class magician in the bar salon one night. He and his contortionist assistant were superb. Unlike a previous guest, we did have lovely smoked salmon and prawns. Any bad points? The pool is not heated and one dip was enough for us.

Room Tip: If you want a sea view, book a sea view room. Yes, it's extra, they usually are in any hotel.

have just returned from a lovely holiday at this hotel but only after changing rooms. Agree with all the compliments made about service and its lovely situation. What lets it down is the description of certain rooms i.e. room numbers 1,2,3, on floors 1,2,3, These room should be described as limited view (or even no view) as they face a 10ft wall, behind this is a public pathway and steps (noisy) where the public can look over into the rooms, beyond this, but still close, are what I think were holiday apartments The higher floors avoid the wall and steps but are still overlooked by the apartments. We spoke to numerous people who had been allocated these rooms and had spent precious time trying to move rooms, this wastes the holidaymakers time and must be costing the hotel money to keep moving people around. These rooms should be charged at a lower rate so that you at least know what you are getting. We knew there were no direct sea view rooms available at the time of booking but as it was our golden wedding anniversary we emailed direct to see if a good room was available on a high floor, being quite happy to pay for an upgrade. Initially we had a reply to say it was too soon to say what rooms were available and after emailing nearer the time of the holiday we were told it was too late and none were available and ended up in one of the worst rooms in the hotel.

Room Tip: Choose higher floor for views Sea view rooms are only ones guaranteed not to be overlooked

This is a Riu Palace so it should come with a very specific high standard of service, we have been to four of these before but not this one and we were not disappointed.

Arrival
We got to our room and thought...............mmmmmmmmmmmmm, this is a seriously small room, we have never had such a small room in a Riu Palace before. So my wife went back to reception to ask for an upgrade and we would pay, no problem. Hey presto, she came back with a free upgrade so a great start to the holiday.

Sunbeds were aplenty and they did not let you into the area until 8am not that there were many folk about at that time. The pool and the grounds were well kept and the place is very very clean. They have a 'beach' sunbathing area with a beach bar overlooking the sea, great after a long day doing nothing lying in the sun.

Dining Room.
Now, we all now how it works, you get a table on the sitting of your choice and you keep it all week. We always get the one next to one of the clearing areas so you spend most of your time looking at someones left over scoff, so another request and we were moved the next evening but why they keep that place is beyond me as everyone who sat there asked to be moved and rightly so.

Now, the Riu Palace is saving money and I have seen this at others so here is what you are not getting what you previously had.
1. No smoked salmon or mountain of prawns, none all week, shame
2. No fresh fruit in the morning other than what is chopped up. Suppose they got fed up with folk taking stuff out. But, my wife asked every morning for a Kiwi and two always came duely peeled.

Entertainment
Now, there is a large indoor theatre which was open only twice during the whole week, another money saving tactic. The band playing on the terrace were actually OK and they changed during the week so all in all, not that bad.

Out back there are two small supermarkets and a couple of bars where you can watch the footie and drink cheap ale.

We have booked another Riu Palace for Easter, the 'badge' comes with a standard of service that is hard to beat.

Room Tip: If you get allocated a standard room......ask for an upgrade, you just might get it!

Did a late booking with Thomsons to the Riu Palace and boy we were not disappointed.
The hotel is on the edge of Adeje/ La Calleta. It is in with the big boys, El Mirador and Sheraton.
Arrived at 2100 ish and booked in and then got offered a meal - brilliant, meats and salad and a drink. There is not a lot going on at this end of the resort so if you want bars and clubs it's not for you. If you want a restfully holiday in a very good hotel where the staff never stop smiling then it's the place to be. The rooms are excellent with all the right facilities as expected of a Riu. The lounge is comfortable with a bar area and longe seats and tables. The weather was fantastic and the evening entertainment was outside on the terrace with drinks reasonably priced. The food in the restaurant was very good indeed. We stayed half board and the breakfast set you up for the bar, especially the glass or two of cava to start you off!!
What sets this hotel off is the pool area which is set in beautiful gardens with pool waiters flitting around all day. The lunch bar serves excellent food which is to much sometimes. One main pool bar serves drinks and tea and coffee but the views from the Beach bar overlook the sea and you can loose time here very quickly.
We tried to get to go to Harriets Tea Rooms in Fanabe ( 20 euros taxi round trip) as they had been recommended on here but unfortunatly the owners wife Diane had a heart attack earlier in the week and was in hospital - hope your recover is going OK, but it does give us a good reason to return to the Riu Palace and Harriets.
Called in the Sheraton next door to the Riu and what a disappointment - no atmosphere what so ever and the price for the drinks is a joke.
So if you want an excellent quite luxury holiday that is not going to break the bank I can reccomend the Riu Palace, Adeje.

Room Tip: You enter the hotel on the sixth floor. Ask for a room on the 5th or 6th floor to get the most of th...
