We stayed at the hotel one night, and actually a rather short period at that. There were four of us in one room, which basically meant we had little floor space, though they did accomodate our family together, so that is a big plus.

The big plus about this hotel is that it is across the highway from a great picnic area and THE BEACH. The beach is great in terms of water and the sand, though is rather windy: Tarife is a windsurfing haven, plus they are getting lots of kite surfers as well. You can go and see very good surfers, as well as lots of learners.

Breakfast was average, and we did not eat dinner there.

My kudos to the woman who checked us in. She was friendly and quick.

  • Liked — It is near the Beach and a great picnic area
  • Disliked — Room was small.

We chose this hotel because we were looking for a family room; in fact they gave us two inter-connected bedrooms, both with TVs and one with a little fridge, plus bathroom. Very nice. Plain white walls, with wooden doors & shutters, like a holiday apartment. It's not a big hotel, and I loved the fact that it's set in the countryside, close to the beach yet only a short drive from the town of Tarifa. (There's street parking in the new town, which has lots of surf shops, then walk into the old town.) The beach is great for a run in the morning, and is reached in a few minutes across the road & through a wooded picnic area.

There were some serious motors in the hotel carpark on Sunday lunchtime - big black Mercs etc. disgorging well-heeled locals, families from grannies to babies; this is obviously the place to eat - the food is seriously good, lovely to eat fresh fish in the sun on the terrace with crisp white tablecloths, and the service is brisk & efficient, but it's not cheap; Tarifa has plenty of student-type eateries.

This is one of several hotels strung along this main road down from Cadiz - the road is busy in the daytime, but still a nice road, and quiet at night. Nice pool, surrounded by greenery. Very pleasant. Not for those wanting a 'surfer dude' place, but in my opinion more civilised than those. The clientele were mostly Spanish, with a few German hikers & other nationalities. Tarifa is a lovely town, but I'm glad we chose to stay outside; more relaxing. The area is unspoilt & beautiful, surrounded by two nature reserves - excellent for walking/riding/birdwatching, and the Roman ruins at Bollonia, a short drive away, are in a breathtakingly beautiful setting.

  • Liked — Quiet, efficient & civilised. A million miles from the Costas.
  • Disliked — Efficient but not terribly friendly (although this wasn't helped by my lack of Spanish)

We stayed there in the end of december 2007. We were given a bungalow. Good sized, more or less clean, no noise problems, nice stuff, but nothing special and overpriced. We payed €96.00 for the couple and a 9 year old daughter, wich is too much for the late december. You can get a better hotel nearby for the same price (or a n equal hotel for a much lower price). Breakfast is just regular. We had dinner in the hotel: Just normal in all ways. Drinks in the bar are also expensive for the usual in this region of spain (and they didn`t offer nothing to eat with the cañas, and that`s not usual).
Get another place if you can.

We enjoyed our one night stay at the Codorniz. It is several miles away from Tarifa which was fine with us. Our bungalow was in the quiet back area of the hotel in a pretty garden. The dinner at the hotel and the breakfast were fine. The staff was helpful and pleasant.

The Hotel Codorniz is on the main west coast road which is busy and can be noisy. It is set back slightly and the beach is a short walk through pine trees. The beach is stunning. The Hotel appears to be a family affair and is very Spanish. We have stayed twice, once in the bungalows at the back and once in the rooms in the main building looking to the sea. The food is considerably more expensive than 4 years ago and the the service throughout our 2 day stay was average to poor. The rooms are a little worn and in need of refurbishment. If you want to visit the Costa de Luz (which I would recommend) you can do better. That said the hotel and restaurant are popular and it enjoys a very good lunch time trade.
