I just spent a week at Punta Sur with 2 friends. The hotel was perfect, very friendly and helpful staff, large rooms and nice garden. We did not have a chance to test the restaurant for dinner but the breakfast was always very good.

The hotel is not directly at the beach, so you need a car or bike to reach Valdevaqueros or other beaches. On less windy days, it is also an excellent starting point for mountain biking.

Only possible improvement: wifi access was quite unstable.

On the main road from Tarifa to Cadiz, there is Punta Sur. Restaurant is very good, pool ditto, staff is very professional, helpful and nice. Rooms are so so - big, air-conditioned, but lacking in feel, atmosphere. It is quiet, close to great beaches (you need the car to get to nice beaches, but can get to a beach on foot).

Punta Sur exceded our expectation. It is a lovely family friendly hotel, located right next to the world famous kiteboard and surf spot Valdevaqueros. Rooms are relatively big, clean and cosy. The restaurant is one of the best in town. Staff super friendly, ready to help you with everything. Hotel is located a 10 minute drive from the old town. August is a hectic Holiday month but this hotel although fully booked, comes with the tranquility you are looking for. Its either this hotel or the Hurricane where you need to stay when coming to Tarifa.

Beautiful hotel with lovely relaxed atmosphere and a bit quirky to fit in with Tarifa! Lovely large pool area giving privacy and space for all. The standard rooms are excellent- very spacious and big beds giving a great nights sleep. Restaurant was the only disappointed. Great menu but under delivered on quality and that was all six dishes we ordered so was the only let down of the trip- wine more than made up for it though!

Room Tip: think all rooms would be considered a good location. all ground floor and bungalow style.

We wanted an out of town hotel near the beach and picked this one. It didn't really work out that well.
The beach was very difficult to access from the hotel, closed off by a wire fence. The hotel grounds were very attractive and quite well maintained and there was a lovely large pool so we felt that we could miss the beach. The pool was however quite cold. The staff were friendly and helpful enough but unfortunately the restaurant was closed (April) so for dinner we had to drive into Tarifa.
Breakfast was included and sufficient for our needs so we were happy with that.
We liked the lay out of the rooms and the beds were comfortable. The TV was tiny and had very limited channels (lots of Arabic stations). The bathroom was clean but the toilet was in kind of alcove that was very narrow which I found less than comfortable.
We decided to check out early mainly because there were many mosquitos in the rooms. We all got bitten extensively.
All in all I would not choose to stay here again.

We had a great time staying at the Punta Sur in May. We were slightly put off by some of the pictures on Tripadvisor, but it's actually lovely - the gardens are very lush and our son very much enjoyed running around in them and admiring the peacocks. The pool was also very impressive and clean (and cold!).

Our room was fine - nothing particularly remarkable, but also nothing wrong with it - we had a family suite, which worked well with our son in the separate bedroom. We didn't have any problems with damp or anything like some of the other reviewers have mentioned, but the weather was good when we were there.

The restaurant was superb for dinner - very good food (and huge portions) - I'd particularly recommend the tuna tartare. While it isn't the cheapest you can eat in Spain, it was good value for the quality.

Overall, definitely recommended as a place to stay near Tarifa.

We stayed in room 22 right by the pool. Good size rooms, clean but quite damp (maybe because the weather wasn't great!) you need a car to get around anywhere!!

Dinner was lovely, breakfast was okay - no hot food.

Peacock kept us awake most nights (apparently it was mating season!)

Room Tip: Get a family suit if 2+ people.
