If you like archeology, you have to go there. It will help you understand how great the Roman civilization was.

“Worth a stop”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 3, 2012

A great walk through the well-preserved remains of the old Roman city. It gives a great picture of the regions' history and traditions like fishing. The improvements on paths will soon be finished, and the experience will be even better.

“A cracking day out!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 21, 2012

We left Estepona at around 10am and arrived at the Roman ruins at Baelo Claudia just after 11am. We first had a good look around the ruins, which given the location with the beautiful blue / green sea, golden sand surrounding them, is absolutely stunning.

The grounds and also the Museo cater for both English and Spanish speakers although on the day we visited the tours were only being conducted with Spanish speaking guides.

The grounds can take a good couple of hours to take in given the absence of shelter you should make sure you cover up on the hottest days.

The Mueso is free of charge to EU residents - you may need to show your passport.

After the Museo we then went to the beach. Parking is plentiful and free of charge.

A cracking day out!

“Great ruins, decent museum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 4, 2012

The museum is surprising for a small outpost away from any metropolitan area. The price is nearly nothing to visit and the ruins themselves are in good shape.

We had to avoid active archeological work going on at the sight (seemed like mostly grad students) and a couple of local school groups.

Overall a great choice for Roman ruins if you're in the area.

“This even made me interested in the Romans!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 17, 2012

This Roman city provides us with the most amazing ruins I have ever been to. Given the site's age, it has been sympathetically restored, where possible, and it is in a fabulous location. The Romans certianly knew where to build: white sandy beaches with a pretty mountain backdrop. The spring flowers were in full bloom and we all felt like we had landed on a movie set.

Even if you have limited interest in archaeology this is an absolute must. For me, it made Rome and York look a little dull in comparison and has made me interested in history.

The visitor centre is also worth the trip too: modern architecture at its best. Sadly no cafe, but why bother with frivolities when there is a great hotel to eat in off the main road only 10 mins drive away that serves a delicious filling 9eu per head menu of the day: perfect!

The kids even found it not too dull and enjoyed playing in the theatre!
