“Loved trip - shame about the guide!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 16, 2012

We went on this trip recently as I love seeing whales and dolphins! We saw HUNDREDS of dolphins but no whales! Still, it was not for lack of trying and the boat stayed out longer than the 2 hours as they were so keen to try to find some.

We booked very last minute and through another company who were very helpful but didn't have a trip going at the time we needed so they booked us on this one instead. We really enjoyed the tour despite the lack of whales but I have to say that were totally unimpressed by the guide who spoke mainly German and only translated the very basic words into English so we did not really know what we were looking at - apparently there were also flying swordfish and sunfish to be seen but we couldn't understand where she was saying to look and what we were looking at! We saw the dolphins because you couldn't miss them!! But we can only guess at which type they were from looking at the photos and we certainly didn't get the information that we have had on other whale watching trips. The sound system was also totally inadequate especially if you were at the back of the boat so I'm guessing that even the German speaking people would have had some difficulties.

There was a younger girl on the boat who was also one of the staff and she chatted informally to us (and told us about the sunfish). Her English was MUCH better than the official guide (Katerina?) so she may have been better doing some of the announcements.

All in all, the only reason that I am marking this tour as average is because I love any sort of whale/dolphin watching trip and they did try very hard to find them. But the amount of information given was really very poor.

“Excellent afternoon”

2 hour tour preceeded by a 30 minute briefing. Got to see 2 types of dolphin, and pilot whales. Would have liked to see others but it seems that the best time to go is July.

Definitely worth a trip.

Cost EUR 30.

“See the dolphins”

Two hour trip with a thirty minute briefing before - they tell you about the different mammals in the Strait - well worth the money. Fast boat, knowledgeable crew, plenty of time to see the piot whales, dolphins and orca's. Pick a clear day with not too much wind so you can tell the fins from breaking waves (mornings are best). It may get a litlle choppy anyway (it's the Atlantic, after all) so don't forget your Dramamine :-P

In August 2011 we spent two weeks in Spain and the first trip we organised was to go ORCA watching with FIRMM. It was even more spectacular than the whale watching. The trip lasted just over 3 hours and we followed a pod of ORCA for a lot of the time, whilst they followed Tuna Fishermen and stole the Tuna right at the last moment. Takes about 45 minutes to get to the right area but the trip is worth the extra money. There were 5 in our party, 2 Adults and 3 Children aged 10 to 12 years and the children thought it was just the best thing ever.
This trip leaves from the Harbour at Tarifa, but check that the sea conditions will allow the trip to go ahead. For us the sea was like glass most of the time. The commentary and knowledge of the staff is high quality.
