Awesome place to stay for a couple or maybe a couple with a kid. Although there are two double beds, you're essentially in one big, partitioned room so there's virtually no privacy. The only door is on the bathroom!
For a couple its wonderful. You're up on the hillside with views over to Africa and down to Tarifa beach. You feel incredibly secluded and the only people we saw were Cat and Ben who own/run the place and the local shepherd chasing some stray goats!
Its all solar powered so our evening were spent in the half light illuminated by candles all over the place (although there are rumours of this being moved onto the mains power so you have access to power all day/all night which i think is a bit of a shame as it adds to the romance. we could have had lights on, we just chose not too!)
The area is full of good bars, restaurants, beaches etc and a they've left a load of local info too. The best info i reckon was from the reviews that people left int he guest book which gave a much better idea of where to go.
The reason for the 4/5 total score is really to reflect that it looking a bit tired now and a few things need looking at fixing, but again we hear that this is all to be dealt with over the winter. Nothing dramatic to fix though - it all worked perfectly for us.
big thumbs up
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- Two contemporary pre–fab beach houses perfectly positioned at just 250 metres from one of the best beaches in Europe, yet at the same time very secluded - a place of real tranquility - due to their location within the Natural Alcornocales Park. The attractions of Tarifa town are 3km away; once a Moorish stronghold, the town retains these influences, but is now better known for its international ambiance and world-famous wind and kite surfing. The property 'El Cancho' - so named for the razor-ridge outcrops that run through its 1-hectare plot - the houses are staggered down its grassy hillside and nestle in an ampitheatre of rock topped with jagged pinnacles and native pine forest. Positioned high above the well-known Hurricane Hotel, El Cancho offers possibly the best view in the area out to the Straits - where the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea meet - and with the minarets of Tangiers twinkling only 14km away. ... more less
