“Serious food for grown-ups”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 6, 2012

Complaining that Sollun doesn't have a kids is like complaining that water parks don't have enough conference facilities - it completely misses the point. A tantalising menu delivers local themes, modern innovative cooking and first class presentation. The proprietor Juan makes every table feel like 'the chefs table' and is passionate and knowledgable about his food. We left the wine selection to Juan and he clearly knows about that too! When we drained our fabulous glass of white before the starter arrived (I know - Brits abroad!) he gave us a refill on the house - a nice touch indicative of the high level of service and attention to detail throughout. Sollun isn't cheap but you would pay double for food and service at this level in London. Highly recommended.

“Top table again.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 18, 2012

Juan retains his passion and flair and delivers on quality food that does exactly what is says on the menu - he will even explain the tastes and combinations before they hit your palate and should you have a dislike for any ingredient he will remove or suggest an alternative. Can be a bit "pricey" but for that special evening out it is worth it.

“Best in Nerja”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 7, 2012

My boyfriend & i visit Nerja at least once maybe twice a year & have found that this restaurant never disappoints. Whether its Juan's sheer passion for his food that always tastes wonderful or the beautiful and elegant way in which the food is presented. You'll be glad you visited. The staff are attentive, but never bother you unnecessarily. Juan - if you read this - what is the name of your house red wine, as it tasted wonderful and complimented my beef fillet perfectly!
& thank you once again for storing my bag of gifts behind the bar whilst we ate

see you next year.

“Long waiting time and not the best location...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 21, 2012

We booked here in the UK before going over to Nerja. When we arrived for our assigned night, the restaurant had us booked for the night after but did have a table free. We sat outside which had a lot of people walking past right next to you which felt a bit too close. As it's on a back street, there were no views.

The food was lovely but we waited quite a while inbetwen courses.

We preffered Au Petit Paris and Oliva over here but give it try for something different

“Disappointing”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 1, 2012

We looked for this restaurant having read such favourable reviews on TA, however we didn't feel it lived up to expectations. They have a Michelin mention, but we felt it lacked the polish & attention to detail that one expects with the "fine dining" experience. This does fly in the face of the good reviews we had read, maybe they had problems the evening we ate there.
Service was a bit patchy, and some staff were obviously inexperienced, everyone has to learn, this is more an observation than criticism, they were not busy, only the outdoor tables were in use, no diners indoors. We sat for what felt like a "while" before we were brought a drinks menu, followed fairly quickly with the dinner menu, they then did not return to take a drink order until we ordered our food. Gourmet Olive oil was poured into a tiny bowl and we were given another tiny bowl of pink ?Himalayan salt (my palate may not be developed enough, but it was just "salt" to me) & then waited and waited for the bread. When it arrived it was good & warm & they also served some homemade cracker type biscuits, although thse were nice they were completely unabsorbant, but by then we had soaked up all the olive oil with the bread.
Prior to starters, they served a little appetiser- the beetroot & strawberry soup, lovely, but I had ordered this as my starter. I think if a little extra treat is being provided, it shouldn't be on the menu, no matter how good it is! Husband's salmon with 3 seaweeds was ok but looked messy, not as good as the salmon at Oliva a few nights previously. My main was a pork cheek with puréed sweet potato & puréed parsnip, they did tell me it was sweet, but I liked the sound of the combination, it was sweet, too sweet & sticky to enjoy with a heavy ?soy flavour & I struggled to eat half of it. Husband enjoyed his pudding and complimentary glass of sweet wine.
When the bill arrived, we felt it was very steep, and they need a bit more polish to justify that sort of charge.
