This was a great choice for a couple of nights in Nerja - a small, family-run hotel with bags of charm. It's a little tricky to find but centrally located. Follow the signs for the central parking near Balcon de Europa and then it's on foot from the big plaza, reception will then tell you where you can get free parking. The roof terrace was gorgeous, and the pool (although little) is refreshing. We spent a whole day on the terrace and weren't disturbed at all. The rooms are spacious and very clean, and arranged around a couple of central courtyards which are filled with tables and lush greenery. Breakfast was simple but lovely. If I had to point out a downside, it's that the hotel is about 100m from the church, whose bells seemed to go off with considerable regularity (but that may have been because we were there on a Sunday)! All in all, I would not hesitate to go back or recommend to anyone.

Room Tip: We asked for a twin but actually got a triple, and the additional bed was very useful for extra space to spread out.

Puerta del mar was a recommendation from a colleague; I then looked at Trip advisor to find a number one rating. If you want a small hotel in a great location with polite and efficient staff that this is it.
First the downside……….it is difficult to find, you cannot drive to the hotel. Follow signs for the Balcon de Europa, and you will find a large underground car park. Park here and walk to hotel, it is right next to the church. Quickly check in, and the staff will give you a map to a FREE car park, just on the edge of town. It was a ten minute walk to back to the hotel.
The hotel is spotlessly clean. Our room was more than adequate, fridge, safe, TV (with good selection of UK and European channels), proper bath with powerful shower over it. Lovely terrace with small pool on roof……………lovely views over town, sea and mountains. Breakfast is basic (Spanish style) but more than adequate and it’s served until 1100…………ideal for lie-ins. We did feedback to the manager that a bowl of fresh fruit would enhance the breakfast experience. You won’t need an alarm clock however, as church bells start at 0900. This didn’t bother me, but irritated my partner. Free internet, and if you need a laptop they will lend you one for one euro an hour.
On check day, there are showers and toilets in the basement, and towels to use.
The town of Nerja is idyllic……………no high-rise blocks, lots of lovely bars, shops and restaurants, and we found the prices reasonable about 1.90 euro for a glass of wine. Beaches are easily accessible and clean. Burriana beach is the biggest and has the most facilities and is a ten minute walk.
Definitely worthy of it’s rating.

Room Tip: As it is in a small town centre, don't expect a great view from your room....you can achieve this from the roof terrace
