“very disappointing”
Reviewed May 13, 2013

Having read some good reviews of this restaurant we decided to give it a try.I booked a table for 4 on a tuesday evening.just as well, the place was packed. We were shown to our table and the menus arrived promptly.we had starters of Gorgonzola, mushroom and onion tartlet and seafood and aubergine gratin. The tartlet was ok but only had the merest hint of gorgonzola whilst the seafood gratin tasted only of aubergine with a slight fishy flavour.Although there was melted cheese on top ,it definitely did not taste of cheese, very disappointing. On to the mains,i had roasted sirloin of beef on horseradish mash which was very good, beef was served as requested, medium rare and was very tender,a good choice. My husband and mother had the medallions of beef fillet 1 medium rare and 1 medium well.both arrived rare and my mother sent hers back to be cooked some more.when it came back it was still undercooked.unfortunately both the steaks were quite tough.Asmall side dish of broccoli, carrots and turnips accompanied the meal but they were a little undercooked. My daughter opted for the seafood rissotto which was beautifully presented and packed with squid prawns and topped with mussels on the shell.on top of moist rice.very good.On to desserts,a gorgeous baileys and coffee creme brulee served with strawberries and shortbread was superb as was the bakewell tart with vanilla bean icecream fruit compote and creme anglais.with 2 bottles of wine, water 1 beer a coffee and a brandy the total bill was 131 euros.Had all the mains been up to scratch i would have thought that a very reasonable amount. When we paid we were given a glass of cava each.we were asked at this point if all was ok and i told them about the steaks being tough. The waiter said he would have a word with the chef and thats the last i heard of it.our expectations were high and unfortunately things were a bit of a let down.

“Excellent last meal of the holiday”
Reviewed May 13, 2013

We took a gamble and didn't reserve a table, but when we arrived we had a welcome from the waiter and he found us a table. The staff are lovely and have a great sense of humour, the wine was very good value for money, the decor and most of the all, the food was mouth waveringly amazing. So tasty, beautifully presented, good VFM. I had white fish with a salad that was just gorgeous. I would certainly book to eat here again and again! The only disappointment I had initially was that the menu isn't Spanish in orientation at all.

“food worth waiting for....”
Reviewed May 11, 2013

Very well positioned in a pedestrianised street and with sea view from the terrace, Bakhus certainly creates a good first impression. Service was a bit dozy, but our drinks eventually arrived whilst we scoured through the varied modern menu. Starters of mozzarella salad and duck salad took an age to arrive but were really very good, fresh and well presented.

After a further wait mains proved a triumph. My loin of cod on a bed of white beans showed a great concentration of flavour, the fish dense and very fresh. A superb, simple plate of food! My desert a bit of a disappointment. Overall I would describe this as a very good food experience; had we been under any sort of time pressure we would have had a different view. The kitchen clearly works to high standards; I wonder if they need more hands?
