Another Riu success . This hotel is perfectly sited for all ages and what makes this even better its directly on a Blue Flag Beach 5 mts from the Hotel Rear Entrance gate and with numerous eateries and Drinking Holes directly opposite the front entrance yet you hear no noise ( Try Sarah & Manolo's for a relaxing drink )

The Hotel itself is is very well managed with excellent staff of all levels who we found to be always Polite and would go out of there way to assist you and help you nothing was too much Trouble ( we have a 12 year old who is rather tall too big for the fold away bed we went to reception and the Bed was replaced with a Full size single within 15 mins )

The Food was of the consistant Riu standard we expect ( Buffet Style ) with numerous meats / fish / pasta's etc every night with a Huge salad Area ( even our fussy 12 Year old was adamant he wanted to eat in the Hotel every night - That's a First ) Specialities available on most nights and the Riu even did a Sunday Carvery as part of the Dinning on Sundays I would also say there was a large variety of food for vegitarians , The Restaurant Manager and Head Chef always Front of House and available to talk to should you have any special requirements , Furthermore as with most Riu Hotels the Director and assistant manager where always present and easy to talk to and most professional and polite

Our Bedroom was of a very good size for the 3 of us ( We had Full sea View Room 522 ) I think you need to request these as the majority of Rooms are Side Sea View but with good views. The Wardobe space was of a good size as was the Bathroom - We would wish to express our sincere thanks to the Chamber Maid who cleaned our Room daily.

The Pool area is of a very good size and didn't seem over crowded even though we stayed in probably the busiest time first 2 weeks of August There are also huge Grassed Terraced Area's with Plenty of Sun loungers should you wish to be away from the crowd , We would also wish to thank the Pool Bar Staff for there excellent service with a smile throughout our stay.

The Hotel itself is only 5 minutes walk to the start of the centre of Nerja ( Turn right outside Hotel and just keep walking ) and a further 5 mins to the centre and the Balcon de Europa with many Pavement restaurants / Bars to choose from.

We went through Thomson and yes for once we had an excellent Rep in Steve who was always most Helpful and professional

All in All another fantastic Holiday with the Riu Group and this Hotel caters for all ages Young and old alike ; If you want a First Class Hotel on the Beach , within Easy walking distance of Bars / Restaurants and an Old Part of Spain then visit RIU MONICA NERJA.

And finally yes I have noted previous comments on Trip Advisor that certain people feel its a little Dated but this forms part of the ambience if you want a clinical hotel stay in a Business Hotel in the Centre of the Towns.

Room Tip: Request a Full Sea View Room - its worth waking up in the morning drawing back the curtains to see t...

This was our first experience of a RIU hotel and it was interesting talking to people who had stayed at several hotels in this chain and balance it against comments who had only been to the Hotel Monica.
I must first say that it is testament to the management and staff at the hotel that several people we met had been to the hotel on more than 10+ occasions and had said how many of the staff had been there for years.
The Monica is run by a pro-active management team with an excellent supporting staff. It is a 'very slick' run operation that is totally geared in making your stay as pleasant as possible. All staff work tirelessly, and are very helpful and friendly, nothing is too much trouble for them.
The hotel is situated close to beach and town with a local bus stop just outside.
Daytime activities are varied and appear to cater for all age groups. The limited amount of entertainment that we witnessed was very 'hit & miss'.
Sunbeds were plentiful, even though there are still some who wish to 'reserve' their beds from 6am - 6pm, yet use them for 30 mins??? (All nationalities!)
The main problem is highlighted by the expectation of RIU customers who consider the quality of the hotel ' not up to RIU standards', which have been highlighted in previous reviews. e.g.
quality of towels, lack of room kettle, general wear and tear of the rooms, quality of fixture and fittings in the rooms, noisy plumbing, sunshades broken, etc.
To highlight the problem for these customers it was interesting to see a guy polishing the chrome of the showers around the pool but the main problem was that the tap leaked!

As 'first timers', well done to everyone working at the hotel for making our stay pleasant. Our room was good and the quality and variety of food was excellent. The hotel management can feel very proud of their achievements and their ability to motivate their staff to work so effectively.

The onus is now on RIU senior staff to put some finance into the infrastructure of the hotel and support this great team to sort out the fundamentals that RIU customers expect.

Overall I would recommend the Monica if staying in the Nerja region.

Just had the most relaxing two weeks we could have wished for. This hotel has got to be one of, if not the best hotels we've stayed at in Spain for some years. Upon arriving, and greeted with the usual glass of fizz and booking in, things just got better and better. Cases taken up to our room and opening the windows to reveal the most outstanding view of a vast expanse of blue sea and beach, took our breath away. The restaurant provided a wide range of dishes to suit most palates and the staff were always there to help and also genuinely happy to chat and have a laugh.

Room Tip: Ask for a fourth floor, numbers 420 to 430 or on that side of the hotel or higher.

My family and I have just spent a very enjoyable week at this hotel. The staff were excellent, the food was good and our children were entertained by great people!

It is good value for money and is in a great location. Nerja old town is only five minutes walk away and well worth a visit.

I stupidly left a handbag in a drawer and they couldn't have been nicer about sending it back to me!

As a family ( with older teenagers ) we have just spent two weeks here. The hotel is situated in the corner of Nerja but thats certainly not a minus. The staff were friendly and reception was slick. The fizz on arrival slotted you in nicely, and the marble decor setting created space. The wi-fi was free for 90 mins per day in the lobby and plenty of comfy seats to catch up on social networks if you wanted. The hotel is well laid out, inside and out. Plenty of shade for the paler ones, especially in the garden area. Yes, the pool ringside does get busy, both brits and those “others” up early carrying towels but we got sun loungers at 9.30 when we wanted them. The pools are great and I never found them crowded unless the poolside entertainer was playing volleyball or water aerobics ! The beach is only 10 yards away. We had rooms on the 4th floor which gave great views and these were large, tidy and clean. The air con was great and yes the beds were a little hard but if they were soft people would moan about that ! For us as parents the restaurant provided good choices and not once did our kids moan at breakfast or dinner. The quality was good but if your looking for 4*s, go to a top restaurant. Some negatives now, yes the towels were not great with some were threadbare, the evening entertainment was dire but comical. The drinks are expensive and in some cases 300%, but you have a choice and they are a business. The managers shomozzed the restaurant speaking different languages but they made themselves accessable, and the hotel was full so they must be doing something right! We felt we got the location, food, space, atmosphere and sun which was what we wanted. The minuses pale into significance up against the positives at the Riu Monica.

Room Tip: Hotel is like a Y shape, rooms 26-30 & 20 -25 give the sea views and the mountains, 4th floor up...

We stayed as a family of 4,2kids age 9&23months and we had the best time! We were allocated a huge family room on 7th floor with good seaviews.very clean. We got a call from reception after 10 mins of being in it to ask if all ok with room,if not we could move! Never before experienced a hotel ever bothering to do that ,usually u would have a fight on your hands to be able to move if u didnt like the room,as I have experienced before in other hotels! Luckily our room was fab. Food was very good, lots of choice, the chefs were pleasant, always saying hello and asking how you were, if all ok. It's just the little things that make this a good hotel, nothing was too much trouble and the staff went out of their way to make sure you had a good stay. Good bars across the road ,especially the ship, very friendly. Balcon a short walk away. Only thing I would say is the hotel evening entertainment was awful! Didn't bother us much as we went out into town most nights, but still! One guy on an keyboard with a dreadful voice does not make for good entertainment, the entire place emptied within 5 mins of him being on! Overall a great hotel,in a lovely location, nice bars nearby ,beach right opposite ,perfect for a family holiday! Would love to go back. Oh ,and we didn't have any threadbare towels during our stay!

Stayed here in the last two weeks of July. Overall a very good hotel kept clean with nice pool and garden area. No need to get up early for the sun bed rush unless you want to be right by the pool as there plenty of sun beds around the grounds. Breakfast choice very good with cold and hot buffet. Dinner choice very good but found the two sittings a bit odd ... Doesn't really allow time for a relaxed meal few glasses of wine etc ... But only a minor issue as we ate out most evenings which we Generally prefer. As previously stated .. Towels a bit tatty ... But they dry you !!!! Otherwise rooms good with goods views out to sea. A 10 minute walk to the centre which is pretty
With lots of choice of bars and restaurants. Hotel bar a little expensive but still good for a night cap. Cannot comment on entertainment as normally in the town of an evening.
Best comment on hotel .... Very friendly and helpful staff throughout the hotel ... And a very Visible management team showing a genuine interest in the guests. Great customer service.
