“Poor weather didn't even dampen things!”
Reviewed June 23, 2013

Had another wonderful holiday in Torrecilla apts. Some of them (indeed the one we had - no. 20) have already been updated and had a really good facelift - new fittings everywhere - and revamped kitchen, bathroom and bedroom! There is now a full cooker and washing machine also. The weather is late May was windy and cold, but even that didn't dampen things. While the thunderous seas were a bit intimidating, the location is still absolutely perfect. It wasn't so much a case of being lulled to sleep by the waves this time, but rather getting to sleep despite them! Nevertheless, the location is simply stunning.

Good, modern (the refurbished apartments) but basic accommodation with a well stocked kitchen. Bedrooms lacked certain fittings such as a mirror and clothes hooks, but made up for by fantastic view out over the garden through palm trees out to the beach and sea. We would definitely return.

Room Tip: Not all apartments have been refurbished, but not sure how you can check this though before arrival...

I'd agree with other reviewers about the location, it is, frankly, amazing. Just a couple of unobstructed yards from the sea, all apartments have a balcony with a sea view. The staff are friendly and helpful if there's something wrong. However, there is no way they should have and excellent score. So first, the criticisms:
There was no-one to welcome us at 5.30pm on Sunday afternoon when we arrived, and unlike other reviewers, we had had no instructions, so we had to hunt around for another guest who told us we get help from the restaurant, which we ultimately did. The out of hours telephone number on the reception wasn't working - even for the restaurant staff.
The apartments, though spacious and clean, are quite basic, in desparate need of refurbishment and look a little tired now.
If you are serious about the catering bit of self-catering, you may want to look elsewhere as only very basic snacks could be prepared in the under-equipped kitchen it would be difficult to cook a family meal satisfactorily. There is a kettle, but it is small and takes forever to boil, switching on and off all the time, with no safety cut-out. The cooker is a simple two-ring hot plate that takes forever to heat up - I rested my hand on for a few minutes at full power and it was still only warm. The microwave is OK, but the mini-grill thing looks like a health hazard. Kitchen utensils were also basic and there were only three mugs.
The bathroom was fine, the only criticism being that the shower was an attachment over the bath.
Rather than a double bed, you get two singles pushed together with separate bed linen - not exactly romantic. The beds were comfortable, not board-hard as you often get, but still reasonably supportive.
The living area is large, but though there is a TV with satellite, I could only find a couple of channels - Sky News, BBC1 & BBC2 - though the latter were very snowy and disppeared altogether once.
There is some noise transfer from apartments above - chairs scraping, toilet flushing, that sort of thing. We were there in June, so there were only a few apartments in use. We had no-one either side of us, so it was fairly quiet most of the time. I imagine it could be noisy in high season.
But the location... Wow. It almost makes up for the rather basic apartments. Just a couple of yards from the beach, Playa Torrecilla also has it's own beach cafe/restaurant which is sooo handy for coffee, ice-creams and snacks on the beach. The staff there are fantastic. They work long hard hours but remain cheerful and are quite a bunch characters.
I've made this sound like the place is terrible when actually we had a nice four days there. I just think it might be a different experience in the high season, with no AC and people in apartments all around you. A refurbishment would really make this place stand out.
Check out my review of the Jamaica restaurant just two minute's walk away for a great quality place to eat on a budget.

Room Tip: Top floor at the end - they're more expensive but you won't get so much noise from surroundi...

Thank you for taking time to write your review, and we are glad you enjoyed your stay, finding the apartments spacious and clean and the service good overall. We again apologise for not having given clear instructions for arrival; as the new restaurant opened the previous day, with last minute preparations this was wrongly overlooked.

We are aware of the need for refurbishment, which is the reason that we have lower prices.  You were initially offered the option of a refurbished apartment, but you preferred the value of the standard one (soon to have the kitchens refurbished). We are happy you found the new beds comfortable, and would have given you the option of a double bed had we known.

As you wonder if it gets noisy in the apartments, I thought you might like to know that you did have neighbours next door for most of your stay, but still did not hear them. Our repeat clients find our apartments calm and temperate; being next to the sea keeps them cooler in summer.

We hope to welcome you in the future for another short break or a longer one in one of the refurbished apartments.

Came here from 23/3/13 to 30/3/13.Arrived and as no one was there they had sent me a number to a safe on the wall outside reception where your key is. No reason therefore to worry about arriving out of hours. The apartment overlooks the sea of the torrecilla beach. Every apartment overlooks the sea with its own balcony. i appreciate that they are not the beat apartments for items supplied, ie oldish pans and mismatched crockery but to me it was only a place to stay and when not walking round nerja one can sit on the balcony watching the beach and sea and relaxing in the sun, with each balcony having a canopy that you can bring down if you want to protect from the sun if too strong.

You are located only 100 yards from supermarkets and shops and really nice little spanish type restaurants. We found the Jamaica restaurant really good value and great food and friendly atmosphere.

There are little things you can moan about, like only two toilet rolls provided and then you buy your own. The apartments are only cleaned once a week so your towels must last you for the week but they dried quickly on the balcony on the drier provided.

If you want 5 star items and apartments dont go here but for a apartment with a view you could pay much more for and friendly staff then do go here.

If you sre going from malaga to nerja do not get a taxi as it costs you about 80 to 120 euros one way. Get the bus from the airport terminal to the bus station for 3 euros each and then the nerja bus from the bus station at 4.euros 20 cents to nerja, about one hour if direct and an extra 30 minutes if you get the one that calls everywhere. This bus can be used throughout your week for tripos to caletta market etc.

Note no air con here so if really hot you may need a fan.

Room Tip: Room 14 looks directly to the beach.

We stayed here for four nights in February 2013 and had a lovely holiday. We found the apartment to be clean, tidy but very basic. Can understand the comment earlier about the 70´s decor, but we know that there were apartments being upgraded at the time of our stay. We was very happy with our ground floor apartment as we had taken out 10 year old boxer dog with us so was not too worried about her spoiling anything. If we had gone as a couple would have asked to be moved to a better apartment.

The staff were very helpful with our requests for ground floor, able to take our dog and making sure we had some heating in the room. Nothing seemed too much trouble for them. On arrival the key was where we had been told it would be. It was a bit difficult to get some parking outside but we was soon given instructions on how to get into the grounds of the apartments where there are 10 parking spaces. We decided to leave the car at the top of the road as manoeuvring in and out is a bit difficult in a large vehicle.

The apartment seemed very secure, even though it was a ground floor one. Good lock on the front door and extra lock on the patio door, plus a roll down shutter. Outside on our terrace was a small table and chairs for outdoor eating. The bedroom was of adequate size with enough drawer and wardrobe space. Beds were very comfortable and clean. The bathroom was of a good size with full sized bath and overhead shower - lots of hot water and good pressure. The kitchen was very small - only enough for one person at a time, but adequately equipped. I would have struggled to cook a family meal as the cooker only had two rings and once you put a pan on one ring, you could not fit much else on the other ring. But enough to cook breakfast on. Only negative is that you can hear every little noise from the apartment above.

The location of the apartments are perfect, on the beach, admist shops and bars, and lots of good restaurants in the area. We were only 10-15 minutes walk from the old town and the balcon de europa.

Room Tip: Next time I would book a room on the top floor on either corner of the building as these get the eve...

I stayed here for 4 nights at the end of October. The apartment block is really pleasant, next to the beach and I was very impressed with the overall quality during my stay. My room and balcony area was very spacious, clean, comfortable and in a very lovely quiet area of Nerja. It was on the first floor overlooking the beach and gardens with fantastic views of the Mediteranean Ocean! The Concierge was extremely friendly and helpful at all times.

I will definetely return to these apartments and would highly recommend them for location and value for money.

Spent a very relaxing wk in Playa Torrecilla recently. This complex is located in one of the most central areas of Nerja i.e. approx. 100 metres from beach & sea, about 10 up market restaurants 3 mins away, many more cafes, bars, 2 supermarkets in the same area and a 7/8 min walk to balcon de europa. The apartments, I believe, were built in the early
70s and some are a little dated. Spoke with the very helpful owners whom, I understand, are in the process of updating all of them. There were a few minor teething problems on checking in but the very helpful receptionist, Francisco, got them sorted immediately.

Have stayed in a few other apartments in Nerja during the past few years and I found Playa Torrecilla to be No 1 with regard to location. There is a very good restaurant in the complex. The owner & staff were extremely helpful and seemed to go out of their way to help people. On one occasion we got a takeaway, a lovely selection of fresh fish, salads, etc. and dined on the spacious balcony. It was a lovely location at night to have a drink, coffee, whatever and watch the sea and the waves. Also the gardens are beautifully kept together with the general environs.

Our apartment was a spacious two double bedrooms located on the first floor looking directly onto the beach. I fell asleep at night listening to the waves and woke up to the same sounds. Feria was happening during this wk but we were not bothered by any noise levels at any stage. In summary, I would return to these apartments for location, helpful owners and staff and the exceptional value being offered, bearing in mind that these apartments are rated as 3 keys and not intended to offer 4/5 key hotel facilities.

Room Tip: Corner rooms on 2nd floor, I understand, to be modernised, large and sunshine all day
