“Nice hotel but too many disappointing aspects”
Reviewed September 21, 2011

The hotel enjoys an enviable location beside the sea at the western end of Fuengirola. It is easily accessed from Malaga airport by a 30 minutes drive via the E15 and A7 highways.
The hotel’s architecture provides all rooms with a balcony overlooking the sea but disappointingly the solid wall balustrades only allow the view to be seen when standing. Also, the layout of the hotel is such that access between the rooms and the hotel’s facilities is mostly a tediously long hike.
The rooms are reasonably appointed but unlike most holiday hotels do not provide in-room tea/coffee facilities. Also, whilst a room safe is provided, it has to be ‘rented’, at an additional charge, and is opened by the room card rather than a guest’s private code, which raises niggling doubts about its security.
The bathrooms provide most items needed but not flannels. And, thoughtlessly, because the green coloured shampoo and shower gel are provided in clear plastic containers with green printed labelling you will need powerful glasses and an electron microscope to decipher which is which.
Upon arrival the room air conditioning would have been more accurately described as central heating. It was fixed within a couple of days.
Although the hotel is literally ‘on the beach’ it is disappointing that it does not provide facilities for its guests and it is necessary to ‘hire’ sun loungers and umbrellas.
The breakfast buffet is extensive and should cater for most tastes. But whilst it provides hot water and individual tea pots, thoughtlessly there are no milk jugs.
The hotel boasts a gym but disappointingly it only contains a meagre 7 pieces of equipment, 3 of which were broken and one faulty.
Beware buying drinks at the hotel’s terrace bar. A glass of house wine and a whiskey / water cost €18 plus.

We booked this hotel as a last minute 4 day break and got it really cheap and were therefore a little apprehensive about what we would find but this was a great choice. in fact there were 3 weddings taking place when we arrived.

This is a really lovely big hotel and deserves it's 4 star rating. The staff were welcoming on arrival and were very helpful when there was a mix up with our room (we had ordered a twin but got a double). Our room was clean and quite large with a really big bathroom which is always a plus for me!

There was every combination of food for breakfast and the staff were all very friendly. We didn't bother with lunch but had one evening meal there. For 20 euros there was a good selection of starters and main courses both cold and hot. The desserts left a little to be desired but I guess that's because I like good old fashioned English puddings. Again though, there was plenty of choice. Of course drinks were an additional cost wise but not expensive which was a surprise.

The pool is a good size with pleny of sunbeds and easy access to the beach. There's a pool bar, which is a little expensive, and a bar in the reception. We did however discover the supermarket over the other side of the dual carriage way which we used each day for bottled water as it was way cheaper than the hotel.

The hotel is a little way out of town so it's probably a good 20 min walk into Fuengirola itself which was a good thing as there was no noise at all at night. A nice stroll along the promenade takes you all the way into town and beyond. A walk to the castle is worthwhile for the views but not much else and it's 3 euros to go in. Not much to see though! You would certainly need to do this walk if you are looking for other bars or restuarants as there is not much close to the hotel itself.

With regard to getting there we took the train from Malaga airport (2 euros 20 each, one way) which takes about half an hour then got a taxi to the hotel which was about 10 minutes and cost 12 euros. Way cheaper than going from the airport to the hotel in a taxi which, we were told, would have been about 35 euros.

So, all in all, a great experience. I would defintely go back and would also recommend to others.

Hotel is stunning, food excellent, service first class. Book breakfast and evening meal as the hotel is situated in the more expensive part of the costa. 10 min walk to the centre of fuengirola if you want the night life, try fish alley its well worth a visit. Also a bus right outside the hotel every 30 mins for £1.20 to the centre of fuengirola if you don't want to walk. Hotel staff don't stop cleaning, the pool was great cleaned every morning at 6pm. Food buffet style cooked freshly in front of you and very helpful and accommodating. Rooms were great with fresh towels and toiletries provided daily. Will definately go back.

*Fantastic pool
*Food fantastic
*Rooms fine, but all have sea view
*I was moved without issue when I requested a different room

*Some of the staff - particularly in pool cafe - rude and very slow
*No evidence that pool is cleaned - coffee cup there for three days
*It is in outskirts of fuengirola - twelve euro for taxi at night to town centre.
*Drinks very expensive
*little to no entertainment - one night there was a parrot show. Seriously. All "entertainment" finished by latest 23:45, even though empty disco space in second basement.
*No shop for toiletries except tourist crap and papers. Important for older clientele
*Full board does not include water?!? Has to be paid for separately, except at breakfast, where i was physically stopped from removing half open bottle.

Overall place is lovely but expensive, but too many petty little things stops me from recommending over other choices.

We've stayed at the Beatriz five years times in a row in March and although it receives mixed reviews we find it suits our needs to a tee!
It's rated as 4 star but we don't really take advantage of all the services so I couldn't comment on all of them.
Rooms are a decent size and all have a balcony and a seaview - bathrooms of a good standard with full baths and great hot water supply!
You can hear ladies (presumably) in high heels clip clopping in the room above at times.
There's the main coastal road infront of the hotel and it's busy but all rooms are on the other side of the hotel facing the beach so it's not intrusive.
Lifts are quick and frequent.
We don't use the gym or thalassatherapy but they look excellent and there's an indoor pool, too but these cost extra I think.
We love the food - half board basis - good choice and quality.
Restaurant staff are super and many have been there each year we have and that gives a good level of consistency.
Rooms could do with a with a freshen up but by no means unacceptable.
It's used for lots of conferences and weddings but we've never found them intrusive.
The hotel's in a handy location for us as it's on the end of the prom and you can walk for miles up to Benalmadena etc. If you can manage.
If you can't walk far it's a good distance into the town centre 20 - minute walk approx but it's flat and loads of seats and benches to rest on.
Fuengirola is large town with all the facilities you'd expect but definitely not a small quiet place.
There's a newish indoor mall across the road about a ten minute walk away with bars, restaurants and cinema multiplex with regular English languge films.
There's loads of reasonable places to eat along the prom with a wide range of quality and menus - some nice fish restaurants with views over the sea and very clean beaches.
March is reasonably dry and I walk around in shorts and T shirt - my wife needs a cardigan at night. You do get a little shower sometimes and their can be a brisk breeze.
The hotel is well situated to access transport - get a taxi ( not cheap) or walk to town centre and then board the bus or coastal train to go up and down the Costa and in land.
Lots of places to visit in case it rains - Ronda, Mijas, Malaga Marbella, etc. Some trips can be quite long - Gibraltar ,Tangiers by bus/ferry, Sevilla, Cadiz etc.
I don't know what it'd be like in July/August - probably too busy for us and we wouldn't go to the Costa's in peak season - pool has lots of loungers in March and you can usually sunbathe then too!
Not many children at this time - guests mainly Dutch, Irish, Spanish, Italian some British getting some Winter sun and well behaved and sober!
Hotel entertainment is zero in March - fine by us!
Castle Sohail is 200 yards away - nice for photos.
All in all a well rounded and good standard hotel, with great food and efficient staff and an excellent base for exploring the local area.

Room Tip: All rooms have a seaview - don't pay extra for one! Book high above ground floor and you'll...
