“Fine, but ...............”
Reviewed November 13, 2012

This is quite a comfortable hotel but as I've mentioned before, the communal areas seem to have undergone some refurbishment, but the bedrooms are looking tired. The lighting in the bedrooms is quite low - the men probably won't have noticed this but for us ladies this is quite important. If you have neighbours who wear heels, then you will hear quite a lot of 'clip clopping' going on as the rooms are tiled, but the biggest negative of this (our second visit), is the size and age of the bed. It's a standard 4'6" double, which is quite small these days and the springs where so noisy if either one of us even thought about moving, then we were constantly waking each other up during the nighttime. I don't think I had an undisturbed sleep the whole time. The weather from 1st - 11th November was abysmal with only 3 sunny days out of 11, and many guests didn't venture out of the hotel, although the Thomson Gold team put on extra quizzes and a film some afternoons to help pass the time. The train to Malaga came in very handy to pass away an interesting day and it's nearby, cheap and reliable. The bus stop is just a block back from the hotel and buses are cheap and frequent. The Myramar indoor shopping centre has a 12 screen cinema with some english version films showing and - a new find for us - there is a theatre in the centre of Fuengirola which puts on several productions a year. We were lucky enough to coincide with a production of Calendar Girls which was really excellent and if you fancy a different night out - give this a try. Book as soon as you arrive though as they are very well supported. All in all this is a hotel catering for the more mature guest and they cater very well for them.

Room Tip: If you don't mind heights, then the higher floors give an amazing view right across to Gibraltar...

This was our honeymoon present from my parents, a two-week stay half-board in the Hotel Yaramar.

From the moment you set foot in the entrance hall you can see the hotel is of a very high standard: the reception staff and concierge are very efficient checking in and moving your luggage to your room.

The food is standard fare for large-scale Spanish hotels: a buffet-style system which works well in so far as you're able to take as much as you want and as long as you want. It does feel slightly "works cafeteria" style however, and with us being there for a fortnight the temptation was to have a number of meals out - particularly as some night the food, whilst all edible, was not the most inspiring.

The entertainment staff were, in the main, very competent and worked hard through the day to keep the residents entertained. The availability of quiz sheets each day, and numerous pool-side competitions meant that there were plenty of things to do if desired, although the majority seemed to prefer soaking up the sun pool-side with a drink and a book.

The evening entertainment was professional, with some good performers across a range of entertainment genres: singers, comedians, and tribute acts were plentiful. The only disappointment was the lack of an encore from any act, and likewise the entertainment staff themselves seemed to make a bee-line for the door when the show finished almost as fast as the audience - there was no encouragement from them for people to stay for the disco or another drink: a shame as one of the top entertainers in the venue is the bar manager (who seemed to have aspirations to be an entertainer judging by the range of costumes and props appearing from the back room of the bar!)

The hotel itself is in a prime location in the centre of the resort, with it's own beach on the opposite side of the road. There is also an outdoor pool and spa for those who like swimming, which is located on the first floor so is private from passers-by on the street (although I was slightly concerned about the pool and that amount of water being located immediately above the restaurant area!)

Room Tip: If you can get one of the corner rooms on the front-left side of the hotel, they have a complete gla...

Just returned from a week at the Yaramar. This was our 9th stay at this hotel and as you can guess we love it. We always ask for the same room (overlooking the pool and beach) and the staff always let us have it. Food is very good ( but needs to be hotter.) Plenty of seating areas. Staff very friendly and helpful and the hotel is spotlessly clean. Can't wait to return.

This hotel is certainly the best situated in Fuengirola. It's right on the beach at Los Boliches, close to the town centre of Fuengirola, but just far enough away to be quieter than some nearer the town centre. The hotels modern, bright, spotlessly clean and well furnished. The food is very good, great choice at breakfast or dinner and the staff in the dining room are friendly, pleasant and efficient. The hotel is safe, secure and in a safe and pleasant area of Fuengirola. A large number of shops, cafes and bars are close by, all good quality and reasonable prices. Also nearby is the rail station where you can take a train to Torremolins and some other smaller beach side resorts. The sea front outside the hotel is broad with seating. The beach is clean and good quality sun beds are available. The hotel has a large first floor outdoor pool with a good number of sun beds. The hotel also has a gym, reading/card room, lounge with entertainment each evening and a night club. There is a poolside cafe and bar service often wit happy hour. This hotel does not usually accept bookings for children and consequently guests are not plagued with noise or any disturbance, day or night. Rooms are large, beds comfortable and good bathrooms. All rooms have balconies overlooking the sea or pool/sea. Each room has a fridge, table, chairs and air conditioning. Perhaps, beside the perfect situation of the hotel and the quality and design of the hotel, one of the best things here is the staff. They are perfect, helpful, cheerful and friendly. Take my advice, and if to plan to visit Fuengirola don't stay anywhere else, this hotel is first class.

Room Tip: All rooms are good, either front facing or pool view. Rooms do not have a lounge chair or settee, pe...

Bad points first.
Hotel could do with a major refurb, it really is showing signs of age now. Bedroom furniture is getting a little tatty.
The food although plentiful and good quality needs to be quite a bit hotter.
Thats about it on the bad points, not much really.
Now the best bits.
Walked into the hotel and like many Spanish hotels the reception area and lounge areas are pretty impressive. I guess first impression were what we expected. Greeted by very friendly and helpful reception staff we checked in and were given the key to our room. 9th floor, yep that'll do for us.
took the very impressive glass lifts to the 9th fllor and enjoyed the ride up looking at the hotel through the glass. We entered the room and was wowed by the size of it. Huge, with floor to ceiling windows along the whole length of the room and having panoramic views over the sea and a private balcony that overlooked to sea and the pool area. More impressive was the vase of fresh roses and bottle of champaign and bowl of fresh fruit waiting for us. Ok we did upgrade to a superior room, we have done this before but have never been greeted by all this fancy stuff. Talk about attention to detail, they really know how to treat people. As if that wasn't enough, we went downstairs to watch the evening entertainment and when we went back to our room, they had been in, cleaned and tidied the room, turned the bed down and left us some biscuits with a little card that said sweet dreams. Absolutely amazing. They cleaned the room twice a day and we were greeted with the biscuits and sweet dreams card every day.
Talking of the entertainment, the Thompson team we excellent. There were 4 of them and each one of them had their own qualities. L, the limp, very friendly and had an amazing voice. Millie, so much reminded me of my lads girlfriend, always smiling, had a warm glow about her and again had a gorgeous singing voice. Dan, probably had the strongest voice and Craig, again had a fantastic voice and was an all round entertainer. They were all brilliant in their own right, but together they are amazing. They were all funny, professional, entertaining and so friendly. In fact we learned the day we left that this four had been voted the best Thompson team globally. Now that is one amazing award in anybodies eyes. its such a shame they wont be together again after the end of this season. Thompsons loss but the hotel guests bigger loss.
So to sum up then, a great hotel, with wonderful staff, in a great location offering every thing you need for a good holiday. There is even car parking at the hotel if you want to rent a car, 6 euros per night. The beach is 20 yards across the promenade, you can get two sun beds for the day which includes two glasses of Sangria for 5 Euros and there are loads of shops and restaurants all around.
Well done Yaramar and well done Thompson.

Room Tip: Room 920. Perfect.

Stayed at the hotel for two weeks and the entertainment team who performed every night in the aquarium show lounge made our holiday. Having read a misleading review below I think it's important to point out that the Thomson team perform in a soundproof room on level -1. The loud entertainment in the atrium (or patio bar) is all local and booked by the hotel! The team were friendly to everybody and have no control over the volume of the hotels separate entertainment in the lounge.
They are brilliant singers and we loved their daytime activites. Thank you Gold team, keep up the hard work!
