“Lovely Andalucian oasis in concrete jungle.”
Reviewed February 28, 2009

Have just returned from a week long stay in February. The weather was cool to begin with but improved and lots of beautiful blue skies. We decided to stay in Fuengirola because of its position on the Costa del Sol - good for day trips out. This hotel was chosen because of good reviews on Trip Advisor, which has never let us down ! We would agree that this is a real gem of a place, so unexpected amongst all the "normal style hotels". It really is a delightful place to return to at the end of the day and you could really believe you were in some lovely Andalucian palace. The open corridors are full of plants, paintings, terracotta pots etc. Do not be put off by the location - over a department store. This really is no problem and means that you don't have lots of noise from below your room. The hotel only has two floors. The swimming pool was in the process of being renovated while we were there so should be good for when the weather is hotter. We had requested a quiet room and and on arrival were allowed to look at 3 rooms before we decided which we would like! This was nice and we decided on the room overlooking the central internal courtyard and waterfall. A good choice. We loved the room and slept well in the comfy beds. I usually manage to complain about rock hard beds but not here. The room was large and well heated by the wall heater/ air conditioning unit. There was an electronic safe that you could hire - 15 Euros per week. Pity it wasn't free. The safe wasn't working when we hired it but Reception organised for it to be fixed very quickly. They appeared to be very well organised and were certainly very friendly and helpful. We stayed on a bed and breakfast rate and were very pleased with the food on offer. A good range - you were offered freshly fried eggs each morning or could choose boiled eggs from the food cabinet. All the usuals - bacon, sausage, beans, cereals, toast ,fresh fruit selection, yoghurt, croissants/pastries, bread rolls, cheese, ham etc. Nobody could go hungry. We certainly ate well. Can't comment on evening meals as we ate out. Fuengirola is very much dominated by "British" food - loads of London Pub type places. Not really our style on holiday but that is Fuengirola. In the end we decided to do as the rest of the Brits do and eat home style food in the absence of any nice looking Tapas type bars. We hit very lucky with The Yorkshire Rose Restaurant. This is situated directly behind the Hotel El Puerto on the front near the harbour. You can't miss the hotel - 2 cylindrical towers, one very tall. We thought the food and service here were EXCELLENT. Lovely food and nicely presented.( Scampi and chips - square plate, proper home cut thick chips. Not the usual offering. )
For trips out do go to Mijas on the public bus. The bus station is 10 seconds from Las Rampas hotel . So convenient. Benalmadena is also nice.(Nicer that Fuengirola we thought.) Do visit Puerto Banus and Marbella for a lovely day out. We also went on a trip to Gibraltar booked at the travel agent at the bus station . Very well organised. The most surprising thing for us in Fuengirola was the zoo. Right in the middle of town and truly amazing .I am not a fan of zoos but thought this one looked different. See their website for details but prepare to be surprised. We loved getting so close to the animals and being inches away from the lemurs on their island. In fact we went twice! Midweek was better as it was less busy. All in all we had a great holiday that was definitely much enhanced by having chosen to stay at Las Rampas Hotel. For us this would be the only choice in Fuengirola.

Like many of the other reviews, we found the hotel to be an excellent, very pretty Pueblo type, clean hotel with good rooms, very good helpful receptionists and waiters, pleasant dining room and decent food. The rooms have airconditioning, and TV and a safe. There is an extra charge for using the safe. There is no fridge or bar in the rooms
The hotel is exceptional value for money and when I return to Fuengirola I will want to stay here again. The reason I have given this hotel a 4 star rather than a 5 star is because it hasn't a bar. Not that the drinking is important to me but because a bar would add an extra facility. In one way the fact that the hotel doesn't have a bar makes your stay in Fuengirola more enjoyable because it means you go out and stroll in the evening and use the cafes and bars in the town as opposed to being lazy and staying in the hotel.
Las Rampas is right in the middle of town with everything around you. The Central cafe is a typical Spanish cafe and tapas bar and 50 yards away around the corner but there are lots of thers too.
The main bus stop is 50 yards up the road and takes you to Mijas, Marbella, and further afield to Gibralta, Seville and Madrid and the train station is another 20 yards further away with a direct link to the airport and Malaga for just a couple of pounds.
Don't think that you won't want to stay near the bus and train station because they're unbelievably inconspicuous.
The beach front is a 5 minute walk from Las Rampas in the other direction and the pretty church square, children's park and famous is zoo a ten minute walk in another direction.
The airport to Fuengirola by train is 35 minutes; using the ticket machine is easy, just press on the Union Jack flag to get the English option. The pretty village of Mijas is about 15 minutes by bus and Marbella about an hour. Fuengirola is by far better value for money than expensive Marbella so best to visit trendy and pretty Marbella on a day out with a packed lunch or thick wallet.
If you do take the train from the airport to Fuengirola - when you come out of the train station then you should cross the road, turn to your left, walk 20 yards, turn right, walk for another 50 yards passing the bus stops on your right, cross the road straight ahead of you and walk down the 20 yard sloping road and Las Rampas is there. Keep your eyes open as it's only a doorway and you then take the lift 2 yards inside of the doorway to the hotel reception on the first floor.

We had a very enjoyable stay and look forward to returning to Las Rampas in the near future. Not however between mid Noveber to February when I understand the hotel closes.

We have just returned from a week in Fuengirola staying at Las Rampas. If you want a nice clean hotel, fair food, and some peace whilst being central this hotel is spot on. We loved it! The hotel is 5 mins walk from the bus and train terminals. Its just under 2 euros from Malaga airport on the train. Look for the signs to Dunnes stores and Las Rampas parking to find the hotel. The hotel is traditionally Spanish and spotless. All the staff were polite and helpful. Breakfasts are a buffet with the usual choices. We stayed half board, the evening meals had a meat and fish choice plus some salad and pasta with icecream pots and fruit for dessert; nice and simple. Possible down sides for some: no balconies as such, no bar or entertainment, no views from rooms. As the hotel has various aspects some rooms can be quite noisy. 230-232 back onto a plaza area with a restaurant, we were allocated one of these on arrival but asked to move and the front desk happily sorted it.

Not much more to add to the other reviews other than to affirm the super quality of this hotel. Clean, friendly, beautifully kept, and still so convenient for the centre of Fuengirola. So good that many of my family and friends would not consider anywhere else in this area. Can't wait to return for what will be our sixth visit.
However I would point out that it doesn't offer much for the party go-ers among you, unless you actually prefer somewhere a bit quieter after those nights out..!!

Positives - The accomodation was very nice indeed, the planning of the hotel has been imaginatively designed in a Roman Villa style layout and made us feel very special. The 1st floor reception and rooms are accessed via the ground floor by a lift or stairs, the rooms are well furnished with modern facilities and are well maintained and cleaned to a high standard daily by an army of polite chamber maids, the rooms are planned on the 1st and 2nd floors in a gallery style and over look a small quiet plaza with a refreshing waterfall, shops and a cafe bar. The hotel is tastefully tiled and the corridors decorated with an assortment of ceramic vases, pretty tiles and hanging plants. We didn't go to the pool as we only booked 3 nights but we had a look and it looked OK. B'fast is served between 8-10am and is a self serve assortment of coffee, juices, cereals, toast, cooked bacon, eggs, sausage etc.
Reccommended restaurant/bar - Tres Amigos behind The Agur Hotel.

Negatives - The shower/hot water lasts only long enough for 1 person and is heated by immersion heater which takes 30mins to re-heat. Some outside noise due to the doors banging shut,

  • Liked — Interesting layout, nice internal architecture and views, clean and quiet.
  • Disliked — Shower didn't stay hot long enough.

las rampas is a traditional spanish looking hotel. spotlessly clean and the staff are friendly and helpful. i booked 3 single rooms which were in fact doubles so nice and spacious, couple of minor gripes,my room smelt strongly of moth balls and there wasn`t any plug sockets in the room, only one very high up the wall,no good for an iron!there was one in the bathroom so i had to place my kettle on the toilet for it to reach the socket, very hygienic, not! the maid came daily. pool area fine tho it doesn`t get the sun until after lunch, tho we came in may, it might be earlier in the summer, pool area locked until 11am,which stops people reserving sunbeds at the crack of dawn, brilliant idea, no bar but we took our own wine to drink. hotel close to rail and bus stations, also close to beach,2min walk. hotel also close to main eating and drinking area called fish alley, plenty of choice of restaurants. we stayed b&b ,selection of english, continental, fruit, yogurt etc,we ate between 9.30-10am so things seemed rather cold, unless replenished, most of it edible, overall i enjoyed my stay at this hotel and would stay again, jill,Leeds

A very central hotel situated above Dunnes stores, on entering the hotel via the lift to the second floor you are met with a typical andalucian charm, a lovely styled hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the restaurante very clean and offered a selection of english or continental breakfast. The rooms were very clean and there was spanish and english tv available. Overall for the price this hotel was impressive, would certainly recommend it.
