DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Resort & Spa Reserva del Higueron
Ranked #10 of 37 Hotels in Fuengirola
Reviewed September 14, 2012

Fantastic new hotel opened in June 2012. Great location - 10 minutes from any of the decent surrounding towns (Fuengirola, Benalmadena & Mijas) & about a half hour's drive from Marbella & Puerto Banus. Also a 20 minute walk from the beach - would reccommend driving or using free train service. The hotel has great facilities, 2 outdoor floodlit tennis courts, numerous floodlit paddle tennis courts (big sport in Spain apparently!), a gym, 4 pools (including a fantastic adult-only rooftop infinity pool) & an indoor spa complex. Food is good. There are 2 restaurants - the buffet restaurant & a more upmarket a-la-carte restaurant called Al Rolo. We didn't sample Al Rolo, however we ate in the buffet restaurant every day for breakfast & once for dinner. Food was fresh & varied every day. Recommend the omelettes in the morning & whatever the chef is cooking up on the made-to-order grill in the evening. If you are not full board the buffet in the evening costs €20 each. The room was fantastic. We stayed in room 504 which was a junior suite. It was on the top floor of the hotel so had amazing views of the complex and also a sea view. The room itself was split onto 2 floors with a lounge area, minibar & a bathroom on the ground floor that led out to the balcony. The upstairs was where the bedroom was and another (open) bathroom (no door separating it from bedroom). There was also a bathtub at the end of the bed which was quite random. Worth noting you have to leave a room key in panel by the door to keep aircon switched on. The staff were very warm & welcoming & always happy to help. Secure indoor parking is good if you have a car. There are electric cars available to hire at a cost of €40 a day and have a 100km range on them. Great for daytrips. Wifi is free and you can pick it up anywhere in the hotel which is handy. Pool towels are given to you at reception when you need them. Feel free to message me for any other info, but overall I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a nice new hotel in a great location on the Costa Del Sol with great amenities and some peace & quiet (there were hardly any kids so ideal for couples). I would place this as a 4.5 star hotel :-)

Lovely hotel - very modern with a great sports centre and several pools attached. Food in the hotel was very very good as were the drinks. I would thoroughly recommend and would say go sooner rather than later as I fear it may become dated rather quickly. Only problem was limited english tv channels - it seemed to cater more to Spanish, Germans and French, and we had a slightly dodgy toilet seat - but not so bad that we bothered to complain. Also able to hire smart cars which was a great idea! Only problem we found was trying to figure out where things were and the procedure for towels etc. as nothing really was explained on check in. The hotel is quite a distance from the beach but we found that a plus rather than a minus! All in all a good experience although the beautiful super fit people that frequent the place can be a bit daunting!

We've spent 5 fantastic nights in this hotel and would highly recommend it. The decor is absolutely beautiful and if you like modern minimalism and boutique type of hotels then this is definitely one you will enjoy.
Contrary to some of the early reviews, we thought the service was wonderful and everyone was extremely friendly so maybe the comments were due to early teething problems. A few months in, they definitely found the winning formula and this hotel is fantastic if you're looking for somewhere beautiful & quiet to relax away from the concrete monstruosity of the Costa del Sol.
One thing to note though is that I would highly recommend you rent a car as otherwise you will be quite stuck in the hotel - especially in the evening as the little train service the hotel provides only runs until 5 or 6 pm.

Room Tip: We were in room 407 which had a lovely sea view

After reading some of the reviews I did think that the bad ones were out of sync with the god ones, I think you can usually read between the lines.

We have just spent a long weekend at this hotel without the kids and I must say we had a very relaxing time, the hotel is off the beaten track and that adds to it being quiet and more relaxing.

The rooms do not have a phone but you do get the option of a mobile phone that is free of charge except when you make outside calls.

The air condition in the rooms are individually controlled, you just need to leave your second room key card in the power switch.
We had breakfast every morning and found the buffet to be as expected and generally you could have anything you wanted.
The Infinity pool on the roof was great and you need to get there early to get a sun loungers

This hotel is rated as a 4 star and not a 5 star as some people seem to think, as a 4 star the hotel delivers. Maybe they do need to be a little more refined and be more informative to new arrivals but when you ask, the staff are knowledgeable and very helpful.
We would stay there again.

Room Tip: We booked a see view and paid a bit more with Venere.com but I think all the room have a see view, I...

I went with my boyfriend for 8 nights, half board, the food was very good, fresh. We stayed at the Junior Suit, which is was split in two floors, very romantic and original. The rooms were very clean. The staff was very helpful, the gym it's very good, the Hotel's decoration: fantastic. There are two swimming pools, the infinity pool was the most amazing experience day and night, We did not eat there, we had lunch at the beach or at the sport club downstairs. It is the perfect hotel to relax, read, swim and sunbath. The hotel has many areas to chill. the beach is very close, there is a complementary train that takes you there.

Room Tip: The hotel is solid, no noise at all from other rooms.

Just come back from 5 days at this hotel, I was nervous due to the bad reviews on here but actually the hotel is very nice.

Rooms are clean and airy, no problems with air con and a nice sea facing terrace. An I pod doc would be a good edition.

Buffet food for breakfast and dinner is nice but very relaxed in the evening so not much point in dressing up.

Al rolo Resturant is excellent, enjoyed 2 fantastic meals there.

Train takes u to the beach about 10 min away, the train is fun but if youd prefer you can hire electric cars from the hotel. I'd recommend a visit to the beach Resturant for lunch at the end by the roundabout, it's a wooden shack with a BBQ outside, friendly warm welcome, great atmosphere and amazingly fresh seafood at good prices. Paella was fantastic!

There is also a supermarket for water, wine and snacks.

The hotel is ideal for couples and families. It's remote in location but if you are looking to totally chill out and do nothing its great.

Only bad points are: don't order sushi at the infinity pool mine was grey and days old ( they replaced it straight away). One of the staff in the sports club bar was extremely rude and unpleasant.

Otherwise enjoy! I've stayed at luxury hotels such as mandarin oriental bangkok, intercontinental hk, w Chicago, this is not like that but for the price it's pretty good. Shame that it's not more of a Spanish experience though. A tapas Resturant would be perfect here. you can travel out easily by cab and find this.

This hotel is great for chilling out and doing not alot.

Not so great for family's as there is isn't a lot for children.

The hotel is set outside of Fuengirola but there is a train which runs from the hotel to the beach. If you are feeling fit the walk from the drop off point to Fuengirola is only about 25 minutes.

The food in the hotel is very good Quan the chef there cooks some amazing meats!! It cost 18 euros each to eat in the Show Food Restaurant. Which is amazing value for money when compared to eating in Fuengirola or Marbaella.

The superior rooms are very nice with a bath looking out the window in the centre of the room although privacy maybe an issue for new couples as the toilets are quite ermmm open?!?! a pane of blue glass covers your modesty and that is it!

We upgraded to a junior suit as from the second night of our stay.
These rooms are 10/10 set over 2 storeys you have a living room downstairs and a bedroom upstairs with 2 bathrooms (one with a door!!!) Showers are really good!!

Infinity pool is lush and opens at 10 get up there early to get a comfy bed!!!

corridors are funky being lit with led blue lighting

the reception is all funky colours and the lifts are covered in green grass!!

All in all cant fault this hotel its funky and modern all in all a great place to stay!!

Would definitely recommend!!!

Room Tip: always go for a junior suit if you can!!! upgrade when you get there and its much cheaper!
