Parador at its best. Beautiful building - 14th-century Arab fortress - nice spacious rooms, friendly service, amazing location - high above the plain east of Sevilla (30 minute drive). Enjoyed the views, the sundowners and the pool. Recommended.

This is an incredibly unique hotel, perched above the town, surrounded by the ruins of the old Alcazar, with a breathtaking pool that is unbelievably refreshing on a typical hot Andalucian day and ranks near the top of my list of hotel pools in the world, for its views and situation. Views from our room were tremendous, it is worth getting a balcony for that reason alone. Most commentators seem to fuss about the restaurant -- but why is that even an issue?? We suggest skipping it and and going down into the town -- more like a sleepy village except at night, when the streets come alive and the well-lit bars and plazas are active. We found several tavernas and bars even without a guidebook and ate and drank well. Carmona is a nice town and good break on an Andalucia trip from the larger, more crowded cities. But even if it were not, this Parador is worth a night or two. It is the best we have stayed in in Spain.

We stayed in June - couple with 2 kids (14 and 8). Summary - if you do not have a car and want an experience to stay in a Parador which is easily accessible, this could be one for you. If you had stayed in other paradors i would probably stay another night in Seville. Our stay in Parador de Granada later in our trip was 5 star excellent.

Pros:
- access : 30-40 min by taxi from seville (taxi fare of 40-50 euro)
- Lovely restaurant La Yedra just a few steps away the hotel
- possible to walk to Carmona town (long walk and steep uphill climb back up) but we didn't do it because it was too hot : 40 degree Celsius.

Cons:
- The Parador was rebuilt about 40 years ago. Rooms are a little worn-out, especially the bathrooms.
- Nothing very much to do near by. The hotel has a resident tour agent which runs a mini-bus tour of Carmona (more like a electric tram). Good value for 10 euros but it takes about 1.5 hours only.
- The parador is on a ridge in the middle of a valley of taller mountains. According to the guide, that's why the heat is more oppressive in summer. Should be nicer in spring or fall.

We also had a lot of problems with our Hotelclub booking. We booked and prepaid for 2 rooms. Upon arrival, the hotel informed us upon arrival that only one room was available. We were squeezed into a slightly larger room (with a double sofa bed). The hotel said the money was collected by hotel club and we have to get a refund from Hotelclub. I sent in a web form which was acknowledged by Hotelclub. Ten days after, I did not get any email on whether the refund was processed. I have to call hotel club. Their website is designed such that they bury the customer service telephone numbers so it is very difficult to find. Finally, after calling twice and being placed on hold for 10 minutes, i was told that my refund has been processed and i should see it in 10 business days ! I probably wouldn't use hotel club again.

As opposed to other reviews I thought the restaurant was excellent as was the service. Having been in Spain for almost 3 weeks the Iberico ham was the best we had tasted. Other than that the hotel was lovely, superb views from the room and restaurant and the pool is very large. Only downside was that the air con could be a little more effective as it was awfully hot when we were there, it worked but could have worked a little better. Carmona is a great place to visit too and it's not far at all from Seville. Would recommend.

We always stay in Parador hotels when in Spain. This one is attractive and there was nothing really to complain about. I have stayed here both in summer and off season. The pool is not open for much of the year, as is normal in a lot of Spain, but would be nice if it was available more.

Go for the view and ambience, the inner courtyard and residents lounge are so relaxing. Pool is situated down quite a few steps try not to forget your sunscreen - it's a long way back!
Good bedroom with a great view over the plains.
Breakfast was up to usual Parador excellence.
Now here's the bad bit. Our dinner was very poor. The food was an awful brown glue like starter supposedly with spinach, which was followed by semi-raw fish, on complaint it was then re-cooked and sent back. From the beginning of the meal we had surly service.
It's the first time in my life that I've refused to pay which produced an unprofessional response from the Maître D.
Definitely recommend the hotel but avoid dinner in the restaurant!

Room Tip: Ask at reception or booking for what you need, view, quietness, etc. the staff were very helpful.

Very well designed space enveloped in the ruin of an ancient fortress. The view from the rooms and surrounding grounds is magnificent. Very comfortable bed, pillows and luxurious linens. Dinner and breakfast were very good. - just wish the Spaniards seasoned their food more for this Texan's palate. Lovely courtyard and pool. Be prepared to hear roosters, dogs, and burros if you open the windows. The windows have stone seats to look over the view.

Room Tip: All rooms have a view overlooking the plain.
