“Parador near Seville”
Reviewed May 7, 2014

We stayed just one night en route from Marbella to Seville. It was a wonderful experience, and we now would like to visit more Paradors. The conversion from a fortress to an hotel, has been expertly carried out. The decor has a quality feel about it, and the views from the spacious rooms are breathtaking. Would definatly visit again

This city is the oldest in europe, and it's worth a visit.
The parador in itself is a monument, excellent Location to visit seville.
I would recommend the vinos con arte Shop, for exotic wines and the owner is an excellent seller, he took his time to explain us how sherry was made.
Good prices too.
The heladería de arques, for a tocino del cielo ice cream

After reading the great reviews on Tripadvisor, we booked 3 nights at the Parador de Carmona and couldn't wait to get there. Our taxi from Seville had a bit of trouble finding the place, but when we eventually got there the entrance was impressive.

The lobby and lounge were very nicely done. Check in was quick and friendly. However, the disappointment began when we entered the room. It looked to me as if it had been furnished in the 1970s and hadn't been updated since. The bathroom was very dated. The view from the room was spectacular and it initially felt very peaceful.

We went for a walk around Carmona, which was very quiet but quaint, and went back for an afternoon nap. This was when we discovered the noise. It feels as if you can hear all actions and conversations of every other guest in the hotel. We hoped this was just because it was daytime and people were coming and going.

We had dinner in the hotel. The dining room is an impressive space, high beamed ceilings and brickwork. We had a table by the window and watched as darkness fell across the wonderful view. Dinner was good, not amazing, but good. The dessert buffet looked impressive but unfortunately didn't taste as good as it looked.

Then we went to bed and this was where the trouble began. Despite being 11.30pm, we could hear the televisions in the rooms on either side of us and from the room above. We could also hear every step, movement of furniture or item dropped in the room above. We could also hear anyone who was in the corridor and every door slamming as people returned to their rooms. There doesn't appear to be any noise insulation at all. Also, there was no air conditioning so we left the window open a little, but after a while, a pack of dogs started barking, and they barked for what felt like most of the night. This was one of the worst nights I'd ever had in a hotel.

We had booked 3 nights, but we left after the first night since, as nice as the view and the hotel common areas are, if you can't get a decent night's sleep, the hotel has failed. I couldn't believe that this was the same place that had been described in such glowing terms by Tripadvisor reviewers. This experience will certainly make me think twice about the reviews I read from now on.

We have always wanted to stay at one of the Paradors in an ancient building and we were not disappointed. Situated on top of a hill, above the adjacent town, the views are just stunning. The atrium with fountain playing in the centre is typically Moorish and wonderfully quiet and cool. The dining room is also a great 'space' with windows overlooking the plains.
The bedrooms were a good size and comfortably equipped. The rooms was a little hot and the Air Con was not available (presumably not yet deemed to be summer!). We ate dinner at the hotel and were impressed by the quality and modest price. We had to leave early the next day and were surprised to find that the breakfast did not open until 8.00 - so, sadly, missed out on that!
Our GPS struggled with guiding us to the Parador and a slightly better map on the hotel website would be good.
Overall we enjoyed our stay and were sorry not to have booked for a longer period. Very good value for such a special place.

Room Tip: The main entrance is on floor 3. Rooms on floors 3 or 4 have the best views - worth checking.

Beautifully restored castle with wonderful woods, stones, tiles and more. Details in floors, walls and ceilings are amazing. You should see the window shutters! We found it to be quiet and elegant. Room sparkling clean, everything polished to a shine. Beautiful bath ( we had bathtub) that looked all new. Shower was hot and powerful. Huge wonderful towels. Location is truly unique. Pool looks beautiful. We almost did not eat in dining room due to April 9 review but luckily we did and had one of best meals so far in our trip. Dining room staff is attentive, room lovely, food delicious. Little extras were a delight. This stay will be a
highlight of our two week Spain trip.

Well, on reading a recent review of this establishment, I was even more disappointed at our experience, or perhaps I should say jealous? We were really looking forward to staying at a parador again after not doing so for more than 30 years. We arrived possibly a little early, at around 1.30ish but we attempted to check in anyway. The receptionist spent a ridiculous amount of time looking at his computer screen and making calls without any explanation to my husband and we stood at the desk, patiently waiting while observing the enormous vase full of "dead" irises - should have rung alarm bells! Eventually the receptionist explained that a room was only available if we would like twin beds or we would need to return in a couple of hours. We elected to return, with no offer of a free drink as with another customer! When we returned and checked into our room, we were generally pleased with the accommodation and as mentioned by many other people, the glorious views. And indeed the parador offers some very good deals on DBB which we had taken advantage of and this is where our main disappointment stems. The restaurant is a very large room and the evening we ate (a saturday) was very empty. For the "deal" we had to choose from a particular menu but as there were other cheaper options we requested if we could select one course from this. The Maitre d' was not impressed with our request but said he would "reluctantly" agree. The food turned up very swiftly and was very disappointing. If this is a true representation of the local cuisine, I'll avoid Carmona. The food did not deliver on any level - flavour, presentation or indeed quality. And the desserts were absolutely revolting - just a never ending selection of over sweet concoctions!!! And to be quite honest, breakfast the next morning, although it was perfectly adequate, was disappointing, especially their coffee which was clearly instant! So by all means stay at this parador but avoid the restaurant. We informed the hotel of our feelings very fully at the time by completing a "suggestions" leaflet. It made us anxious of our decision to stay at the brand new parador in Cadiz but there was no need as this was a wonderful experience. I'm so sorry to be writing this review but I really felt very let-down by the culinary experience.

Top class hotel for a reasonable price. When we arrived, the room was not ready yet. As a compensation a free drink was offered, nice. So we went tonthe terrace: a view to die for. The expression "Vedi Napoli et poi muori" needs to be reviewed...
Room was spacious and clean. Beds were more than ok and again, that view...
