The restaurant in the Plaza de Toros (Bull Ring) was a great experience and full of atmosphere. The food was good, very Spanish, though not always served hot. Good wines and surroudings made for a memorable evening

We went there with high expectations having seen it in a book dedicated to good restaurants, obviously it was a comedy book. Awful food, lousy service. They seem to be resting on there laurels as they have a few good write ups, you cannot do that in the catering industry! What is wrong with some of these people. They have fantastic produce in their country and insist on mucking it up. Buck up guys, I love Spain to my core but the food in the majority of these restaurants is a joke. When I find a good one I treat it like the Dead Sea scrolls it's so precious. Please be more aware of your market

We both had the pig's cheeks with mushrooms and raisins. Not bad. Service was dreadful - two rude waiters who paced up and down waiting for us to finish so they could pounce and take our plates away. One chewed his fingernails the whole time and they both picked their teeth with toothpicks. Not nice.

Rather heavy food, but in an interesting location.
This is somewhere to visit if you want a really heaty meal rather than a more lighter one.

A Restaurant to be avoided!

When 6000 spectators at Dinner time are leaving “Plaza de Toros” in Antequera after a Bull fight! You would expect some locals to dine at the spacious Restaurant “Plaza de Toros La Espuela”, which is built-in to the “Plaza de Toros” complex and nicely decorated with the usual “Bull stuff”. Only 18 people did when we were there, and half of them were foreigners. Why?

Because the food being served is way below average and the prices 50 % above average + 8 % tax, which you will find in small print at the bottom of the Card. To this you can add two very unprofessional and rude waiters. (Was one of them the Owner?)

“Rabo de Toro” (Bull tails) is a very well-known dish in Andalucia and comes with a rich gravy. Not so in Restaurant “La Espuela”. Tails and the watery gravy were grey and tasteless; add a small handful of oil drenched limp fries, 2 pieces of battered soft onion rings, and a cooked pepper fruit, was it? All three accompaniments had the consistency of uncooked squid and the whole dish badly presented.

Our neighbouring table returned a dish (whatever is was) to where it came from.
Don´t be fooled by the Internet photo presentation.

It´s a Restaurant to be avoided as 6000 locals did on the night of the Annual August Bullfight 2012. This is a personal opinion from a Cook and Food writer.
