“Do not go on half board at this hotel, but Antiquera is well worth a visit.”
Reviewed October 19, 2010

Hotel is fine, clean , roomy and well equipped. I do hotel inspections as part of my job and perhaps I am more critical. Receptionists are not over helpful. A smile occasionally would have been good.
You get the impression with the food that this part is run by a tight accountant. Breakfast is very limited, one cereal, processed ham and cheese, bread etc., Dinner was unbelievably poor. Pork fillet was cut from a pretty inedible part of the pig and over cooked on outside and not thoroghly cooked in the inside. Fish was overcooked. Vegetables nearly every night were tinned peas, carrots and occasionally beans. The local Markets are full of glorious fresh vegetables! I see that a review in April 2009 thought the food was poor and it certainly has not improved. The chiller had a cream aerosol nozzle stuck in the icecream and it looked as if it had been there for ages. Empty ice cream containers were not washed.
Oddly, the Tapas in the bar was very good and generous portions Rioja by the glass was fine.
Antiquera is a very interesting old town and the hotel is well placed to walk around the town. The view from the castle is stupendous. The little tourist bus is well worth it, (senior citizens get a discount) and the driver was very pleasant. There is a recorded commentary. Do go and see the prehistoric Dolmen on the tourist bus,if you have a car, you can take in the other sites as well. Town is well placed for visits to Seville, Cordoba, Granada and Ronda. I loved the town but not the hotel.

I stayed here with my husband for 2 nights as it was a good base for our visits to the nearby El Torcal Nature Reserve and the Lagoon of Fuente de Piedra. The hotel is well situated and easy to find and only a short walk to the cosmopolitan centre of Antequera with its street cafes, modern shopping centre and many churches. The hotel has a secure undercover car park which you have to pay for but there are also free parking places outside the hotel which we used. Our room was very clean and comfortable with air conditioning and a mini bar. I used the free wifi and received good reception in the room. There is a small roof terrace with sun beds. Breakfast was served in the smoky bar area and was very basic consisting of freshly squeezed orange juice, which was very refreshing, local mollete bread which was toasted and there was a choice of jams or cooked meats. There was also a choice of tea or coffee and when I asked for hot chocolate it was also available. The bar was popular at breakfast time with the locals calling in and although it was a nice bar it wasn't pleasant eating there because of the smoky atmosphere. We didn't use the restaurant in the evening and didn't see anyone eating in it whilst there so cannot comment on the food. Overall we enjoyed our short stay at the hotel and I was glad that we picked it out of the choice we had as it was the most conveniently located for our stop over on our way to Ronda and then to the coast.

The hotel food is variable. The fish in general seemed to be good and there were ofter other choices availble other than those on the official menu. The desserts were unadventurous and repetitive, but OK. The breakfasts were the same each day, again pretty basic - and the cereal was sugar puffs! I used the revolving toaster to make a taosed chese sandwich and brought in my own tomato to grill. The hotel is very clean and room service good. Although on a main(ish) road the hotel wasn't noisy.
A couple of things to be aware of: Passports are 'on show' behind reception which is not good. Get them back in yopu poseeion as soon as you can.
Also on our lanst day some Spanish lady came into our dining room whilst we were having breakfast. No one took any notice. Later someone's handbag with 4 passport in was found to be missing. Watch your property!

The hotel is very nice, spotlessly clean. The staff are friendly and helpful.
The hotel is well situated in the town and also for touring. We visited Seville, Cordoba, Ronda and Granada by coach and they all were around 90 minutes from the hotel.
The food was fine and at 10.50 euros for a three course meal good value. The waiters were very attentive. .
We paid for the hotel as part of a package deal so do not know how much it cost us.
We would certainly stay there again

The rooms and common areas are fine - spotlessly clean and reasonably well appointed. Reception staff are helpful but don't think about using the restaurant - the food is dreadful. The 'chef' managed the dubious honour of cooking the vegetables so that they were both grossly overcooked and stone cold. Breakfast consisted of processed cheese and ham, sliced white bread, Sugar Puffs (only cereal on offer), and shop bought, wrapped cakes - and lukewarm coffee. The bar is reasonably well stocked but soulless and noisy.

Hotel very clean. Rooms large with air conditioning. We paid extra for half board option and frankly the food was not good, I agree with a previous comment- they need a new chef, in fact what they actually need to do is employ a chef because they are obviously allowing the odd job man to do it at the moment. I have nothing positive to say about the food at all. Eat out!
