As a local , I have enjoyed many a pleasant trip here, other reviewers will tell you how superb it is. Here are a few handy tips to make your day even better. 1.Outside of summer months(late June July and August) wait till after noon as there is often cloud cover in the mornings 2.Take clothing to put on as this is a mountain and can be chilly. 3.Wear sensible shoes-Flip-flops are not appropriate for ascending and descending the pathways. 4.Don,t forget the slip/slap/slop rule(don,t know what this is? Look on internet under skin cancer). 5.Be aware Sat/Sun is when the local Spanish arrive, it can be busy. 6.If its busy it will be noisy-birdwatchers go to tip 8. 7.If its busy the road up is closed and you have to park at the bottom (buses run on certain days for those not able to do the walk up). 8.Birdwatchers, early morning or after 5pm are good times. Whatever time you arrive, park at the bottom and walk up and you will not be dissapointed. 9.Keep your mobile in a zipped pocket so it does not fall out when you are scrabbling round up/down rocks. 10. Take water with you when it is hot.(cafe sells bottled water.).
Hope this article is of use for your visit.

a very special sort of rocks and a museum who tries to explain where the rock formations came from! some are very bizar formed;for example there is one formed like a camel! Better dont go on a foggy day,and put something warm on ;it can get very cold up there

We were staying near this park and decided to check it out. Because of a special event going on when we got there, it was closed to car traffic, so we hiked up (approximately 3.7Km). It was easy and we passed herds of sheep and beautiful rock formations. Views of the towns in the valley were amazing. On way down we saw mountain goats lounging on top of the rocks.

There is a facility at the top with a nice cafe, a small shop, a display/museum and bathrooms. Highly recommend El Torcal.

El Torcal, is a regular place we visit, for hiking and exploring and taking visitors. Dramatic rock formations high in the mountains. Ideal for picnics and walks, with routes clearly marked from easy to difficult. Great to see natural wildlife and views to afar.
