“Pretty good unless you need a taxi”
Reviewed January 30, 2014

The room itself was simple, clean and inexpensive. Close to the port, the train station and the bus station. The staff are nice but not so helpful (more to follow)...

Downsides:

1-There was a light in our room that would not shut off. It seemed like it was an emergency exit sign.

2-Thank goodness the hotel is close to the ferry station. We had asked for a taxi to be call to pick us up at 8:30 in the morning. The hotel staff encouraged us that it was very close only 15 minutes away but I insisted that we have a taxi come and pick us up. Well 8:30am came and went. The office does not open until 10am and there was no taxi and it was POURING rain. So we walked to 15-20 minutes that it took with all of our luggage (2 backpacks and 2 small bags) in the torrential rain because someone did not call us a taxi. Thanks!

If you need a clean, cheap place to stay go for it. If you need to be somewhere early in the morning...skip this one.

Room Tip: Probably any room will be fine.

The staff was super friendly. The room was clean with a nice bath and a balcony. There was a kitchen on the rooftop, which was useful. Not far from the port, the train station and the bus station. Conveniently located for moving on. The room on the street side was a bit noisy but was not a big trouble.

I stayed in this hostal on the way to and then from Tangier. The brother and sister who do the management could not have been more helpful and friendly. They gave me tips on my visit to Tangier and told me all the good places visit within town. The room was simply decorated but spotlessly clean and the bathroom was very up to date. Algeciras itself was great, virtually no tourists and lots of authentic places to eat and drink.
I cannot thank them enough for two great stays.

The room itself was simple, clean and inexpensive. It is easily walking distance from the train station and ferry terminal. The owner, Jose, was very friendly and helpful . He had lots of good advice on what to see, and the best ways of getting to Gibraltar and Morocco. He made us feel very welcome. The wifi worked perfectly while we were there.

The only down-side was that it was a bit hard to find.

I would recommend this hostal as a very pleasant and cheap place to stay.

Cheap hotel in the city center. Service minded owner who prefer german to english. Some noise from the street. The wifi is so slow that it will drive every normal person completely mad. Avoid for that reason.

I booked a room with kitchenette as I hoped to save a bit of money on eating out; but didn't realise that no Supermarkets open in Spain on Sunday so I lost the advantage of it. Located in nice, quite part of the town about ten minutes walk to the ferry terminal. There's a box for dropping the room key into as I was leaving early to catch the first ferry to Tanger Med. Free Wi-fi and the connection was very good. Very clean cooking area and all cutlery and utensils, microwave, fridge. Also came with study area and En-suite with plenty of clean towels and soap etc. Not bad for €20 a night. Could hear TVs on full volume from other rooms (common with most Spanish pensions) but this quietened during the night. Had a good sleep.

If you need a cheap stopover (or don't catch the last bus away) Lisboa is a pleasent place to spend the night.
Clean rooms, fine shower and a good rest (I could have used some A/C, though). The staff is great and helpful. There is also an automat with beverages and crisps, so you can have a beer in your room; there is really not much to do in Algeciras. A boring port town.
