The owner, Vladimir Šilak, has put in a huge effort since the mid- 1990s lovingly restoring this 500+ year- old property. The location is excellent, the rooms are excellent and one feels immediately at home in this unique hotel. Every room is different.
We stayed in Room 6, a double with a private balcony. The room has an entryway with oiled cherry wardrobe, a small bathroom and a decent- sized bedroom with a desk. All the furniture in the hotel has been handmade from mostly cherrywood and some oak, classic oil finish, and is perfect in the setting. The room was spotless. The bedding was comfortable. The view from room 6 looks into a neighbor’s courtyard, nothing special except for the pigeons teasing the cat – they both seemed to enjoy the game.
Rooms in the back enjoy a view up the hill to the castle and over to the bell tower.
Breakfast is simple but good. The setting for breakfast is in the Gewölbe, really nice.
It is a short walk to their recommended restaurant, Ribic, which was excellent. In fact all of their recommendations were excellent and they went out of their way to arrange this and that for us – such great hosts. NOTE: if you would like to do the wine- tasting which is noted in the guidebooks, it must be arranged in advance – the hotel will be happy to do this in advance of your visit if you just let them know.
Mr. Šilak will happily show you the pictures of the property as it was when he began – it’s hard to imagine how much work it was to restore, but he and his wife have done an amazing job.
In short – this place is highly recommended. We shall return there, and bring our friends as well.

- The house is located in the oldest still documented part of Ptuj, in the street Dravska ulica - on the left bank of the river Drava, in immediate proximity to Restauran Ribič. The oldest documents from 1291 name this street “Leather Street”, “vicus cerdonum”. The houses along the street were at the same time leather workshops. The house can be found in the town statute from 1513. Today, it is a cultural monument and has been completely renovated in 2009. Its outer appearance may be simple, but the interior reveals rich content. All rooms and apartments are equipped witch their own bathroom, cable TV and TV set as well as wireless internet. The apartments all have their own kitchen. Our customers have a parking place and a rentabike service at their convenience.
