“A gem in Ptuj, undiscovered medieval town”
Reviewed November 5, 2013

The owner, Vladimir Šilak, has put in a huge effort since the mid- 1990s lovingly restoring this 500+ year- old property. The location is excellent, the rooms are excellent and one feels immediately at home in this unique hotel. Every room is different.
We stayed in Room 6, a double with a private balcony. The room has an entryway with oiled cherry wardrobe, a small bathroom and a decent- sized bedroom with a desk. All the furniture in the hotel has been handmade from mostly cherrywood and some oak, classic oil finish, and is perfect in the setting. The room was spotless. The bedding was comfortable. The view from room 6 looks into a neighbor’s courtyard, nothing special except for the pigeons teasing the cat – they both seemed to enjoy the game.
Rooms in the back enjoy a view up the hill to the castle and over to the bell tower.
Breakfast is simple but good. The setting for breakfast is in the Gewölbe, really nice.
It is a short walk to their recommended restaurant, Ribic, which was excellent. In fact all of their recommendations were excellent and they went out of their way to arrange this and that for us – such great hosts. NOTE: if you would like to do the wine- tasting which is noted in the guidebooks, it must be arranged in advance – the hotel will be happy to do this in advance of your visit if you just let them know.
Mr. Šilak will happily show you the pictures of the property as it was when he began – it’s hard to imagine how much work it was to restore, but he and his wife have done an amazing job.
In short – this place is highly recommended. We shall return there, and bring our friends as well.

Room Tip: The rooms in the back are very quiet. Every room is different, but the hotel's website has pict...

We've returned from our trip in Slovenia and wanted to share our experience at Vladimir Silak's B&B. Vladimir was so welcoming and we immediately sensed his passion for his home and delightful Ptuj. This beautifully renovated historical property reflects his hard work and attention to detail. We stayed in room 6 and it was lovely, clean and the vaulted ceilings made it feel very special. Vladimir also suggested a few places to visit and eat, and nice views of Ptuj at night, a nice stroll across the bridge. His staff was very accommodating when we arrived a bit earlier than expected. The buffet breakfast was plentiful and delicious. Unfortunately we only had one night at this B&B before returning to Canada. We are very pleased to recommend to anyone travelling in the Ptuj area to reserve a room at this B&B.

We can only confirm what the others write- EXCELLENT. Very excellent hotel with friendly helpful owners, lot of hospitality. Although it is rebuilt historical house it has its charm, it is modern practically furnished,
at a very convenient place in Ptuj. In spite they have only *** we would classify them among the ***** hotels!
We fully recommend this B and Breakfast hotel.

I loved this property. We only stayed one night (on our way to Croatia) but I just loved the work they did rebuilding the property and its history. Very hospitable hosts. The property and the room was extremely clean. This property is not the Ritz but for its budget it was perfect. The room was fully remodeled and it still had the old vintage beams on the ceiling and the 500+ year old design and brick in the breakfast room (I think it used to be a cavern or basement (keller) storage area). We had no problems with WiFi, and TV Satellite. The beds were extremely comfortable. I will definitely return.

The highlight of our stay in Ptuj was at Vladmir Silak's hotel. This wonderful hotel is somewhere between 500 - 800 years old, and is beautifully renovated to be comfortable, quiet, and very clean while still keeping its old world charm. We enjoyed room 11 very much, and loved chatting with Vladimir while he showed us pictures of his property before its renovation.

We have had 3 relaxing days in this lovely hotel. The courtyard is a haven of peace with harp and pipe music in the late afternoon and evening.
The rooms are beautifully appointed and recently redecorated, with care and attention paid to the character of the building as well as to the furnishings. The beds are very comfortable and the linen good quality. There is air conditioning in almost all the rooms, although some of the rooms only need it in the hottest weather: we were in room 6 in the recent heatwave and only needed the air conditioning part of the time.
Breakfast is a treat in the cool and cavernous partly underground cellar, with cereals and meat and cheeses.
Our hosts, Vladimir and his wife, were very friendly, welcoming and extremely helpful, and unobtrusive.
We had a great stay. Thank you.
