Hotel is old and unappealing. No electric outlet, no tissues, no bathmat, no list of hotel services or phone numbers, no safe in room. Little hot water, towels frayed. Asked for an iron and ironing bord in late afternoon, was told laundry closed for the day, try tomorrow morning. Shower curtain fell down on my wife while she was showering. Breakfas, at best, medeocre. Service in restaurant lacking - appetiser came last.

Poorest service, quality and attitude that I have seen for many years. This is a large 2 star hotel.

Just about everything that a hotel is about is terrible. Bad rooms, bad service (if you can find any), cleanliness, little works seemingly. The food is a disaster.

Everything is old and decayed!

Don't bother with the so called English bar, to get there you go down two levels of stairs that are dark and dangerous and there is nobody there anyway to serve a drink. Just take it yourself and leave the money on the counter. Something of an insult to the English to give it that name.

All departments dysfunctional.

Room Tip: If you are on business you have to use internet in the lounge area as non in the rooms.

I'm going with "Average", because for all I know this is the creme of the crop in Sinaia, but I hope not for their own sake.

The building's location is very good, and from the outside its pretty amazing and looks rich in history. it sits on a park and is close to everything. The problem is once you get inside. You can tell the place had some old glorious past, but it really could use some updating. Old walls and ceilings are great in a museum, but at least balance it with more modern furniture and decoration i the main lobby. In my room, there was exposed concrete over the door where they began repair and never finished. There was only 1 power outlet in the whole room.

But, none of that turned me off as much as the in-room service. Housekeeping barely made my bed. They left the pillows as I had left them, just pulled the sheets over them and put the decorative comforter over that, without even trying to make it look neat. Bathroom, they threw a few shampoo packets on the counter and the shower curtain was still as i left it.

I could have lived with everything, but the housekeeping service was simply horrible. I would not stay there again If I visit. Again, problem is I cant compare them to anything else in Sinaia, but I can compare them to a great hotel in Bucharest, where they had spectacular housekeeping !

“Faded glory”, indeed, from this former casino hotel. The cramped and dark room (1950s décor, large brass chandelier), facing on to a park, was in dire need of a make-over; but things worked.

The shower was ‘adjusted’ to spray on to the floor, before I realised, and was unable to be secured to its holder. The washbasin leaked underneath and the floor not clean.

The restaurant was in contrast: much better appointed, with a delicious odour of appetising food. Very friendly and solicitous waiting staff had my food prepared as specifically requested.

With no air-conditioning, the window had to be open through the night. A dog incessantly barked, traffic noise continued until the early hours and trains rolled through the town, sounding their bullhorns. Sleep was much disturbed: a big minus.

Would I go back here ? No !

Cars had to be parked outside the front of the building, for a 10 lei per day charge.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else !

Stayed there for 3 nights. A big hotel built in the 19th century I think but now run by some lousy guys who have no idea about quality and proper services. The hotel underwent several refurbishments but none was complete. Its nice architecture is flawed by old furniture and poor finishings, old carpets and no sound insulation.

The food is pretty ok, but the waiters seem to be some amateurs trying to do their best. No etiquette.

Definitely not a 4-star hotel. Three, maybe.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms close to the elevator tunnel.

Sinaia in the Carpathian mountains 2 hours North of Bucharest, site of the castles of erstwhile Romanian monarchs, is a mountain resort, with excellent skiing in the winter and wonderful forest walks all year round, It is a charming place full of excellent hotels of all varieties at very affordable prices. A beautiful park and a magnificent Conference Center (that used to be the Casino to which the Romanian aristocracy used to hurry by train for a weekend of gambling) are among the main attractions but the magnificent scenery of virgin forests through which wolves and bears still roam are unequaled.

Palace Hotel is full of early 1900's charm but is completely renovated to luxury standards, Very friendly and helpful English-speaking staff will ensure your comfort as will an excellent dining room serving a very comprehensive breakfast and a more than satisfactory international menu. Highly recommended for all types of holidays, including skiing holidays, summer breaks and honeymoons.

Room Tip: Ask for Ms Roxana, the Sales Manager lady.

Arrival at this hotel is shrouded in cigarette smoke...from the check in staff! Is there anyone to train these people into internationally acceptable standards? This is the worst hotel we have ever stayed in. The toilet had not been properly cleaned. No hot water for 24 hours and and a receptionist who said there was no manager on duty to deal with the complaint. When we asked who was in control we were told "nobody". God help the hotel if there was a fire or an emergency. The rooms were dingy and dated. The shower rail fell off (same fate suffered by another party in the same tour company). Breakfast was OK by Romanian standards but orange juice was orange squash. This hotel seems to be favoured by tour groups and they get away with not having to covet repeat customers. Avoid if you can.
