Next to the Peles castle there is the Pelisor castle. Less fancy than the big one, but much more comfy, feeling like a home. That's actually why it was designed ! A join visit of the 2 castles is really a good objective, being one the next to the other.
Entrance is 20 lei with Romanian or English speaking guide. You can get a join ticket for Peles and Pelisor for 30 lei.

Must see this if you are in the area. As the Peles Castle this is a breathtaking castle. I suggest booking at Bastion Hotel. This hotel is walking distance from the castle. Not a 5 minute walk, but lovely views and fresh air would make this a lovely walk.

This was built to allow the King of Romania's wife, who was a stylish German lady and not a fan of inch-thick carved oak, to live in a place more suited to her style. It's a superb Art Deco castle; light and airy in exactly the way castles usually aren't.

Because Peles Castle was closed for maintenance we only so Pelisor Castle which is a cozy and warm castle which was used by the Royal family for every day living.
One thing that did not fit in was a room covered entirely (ceilings included) in gold.

You should first see Peles, then Pelisor - this way it's easier to understand how things evolved, from one king to another. Peles was built by King Carol I, who also built Pelisor as a wedding gift for the Crown Prince, Ferdinand. While both the castles look similar on the outside, once inside things change dramatically. Pelisor was decorated by Ferdinand's wife, Queen Maria, who choose a more eclectic mix for their summer home, ranging from art nouveau to the Brancovenesc style. It's a charming little palace, that's really worth visiting. Our tour guide was lovely and answered every little questions we had with a smile on her face.
Since the palace is quite small, the tour only lasts about 30-40 minutes.
The entrance fee is 20 lei for adults, 10 lei for pensioners and 5 lei for students. It's closed on Mondays and Tuesdays during winter time (September 17 to May 13). During summer time, it's also closed on Wednesdays.
