Description: Located in a former distillery and inserted into the surrounding space of the Quinta da Pena, in Vila Caiz - Amarante, the "Pena - Restaurant & Bar" results from the rehabilitation of a historic space with a contemporary language. In a familiar environment, the space is divided between the living room set in the very mill, the bar-cellar suitable for a winter afternoon by the fireplace and a large terrace that invites you to taste the house cocktails or dinner on the patio and under a candlelight on the hot summer nights. The gastronomy of the house will take you to the flavors so characteristic of our region, coupled with its outstanding creativity. In a refined place in its rusticity, the customer finds the flavors of the house and the region and also enjoys the tranquility reflected by the surrounding space consisting of the manor house and its gardens, the woods and several secular acre farms. More than just a meal, we want you to live a unique moment. Make yourself at home ...

It is such a lovely restaurant located in a nice vinyald/garden up the hill. The drive was a little difficult but totally worthed.
We've ordered scallops, octopus and foie gois as starters, and they were all outstanding. Creative and really delicious doshes.
The wines were fairly priced and the waitress gave very professional suggestion. I would also recommend the pavlova cake as dessert.
The restaurant was really good decorated and the staff was really professional, which superised us a lot as we'd been to a few "chef restaurant" in the area and this one turned out to be much better at all aspects.
I would totally recommend and hopefully come back again.

This is an absolute must stop! From the rustic decoration that so well characterizes the place, to the menu so tasty and creative, and the service so attentive and personalized ... A warm thanks to Miguel and Joana, who welcomed us so well. It was a wonderful dinner!

They didn't have our reservation even when we showed the host her boss's confirmation of our booking, nevertheless, she was able to seat us for lunch. The restaurant is a little hard to find. It's in the family's compound beautified with a variety of beautiful fragrance roses. In nice weather, you should book for outdoor seating. A quaint, modern, and elegant design.

We had foie, carpaccio, duck breast, scallops, and Pavlova. Don't deny the home-made bread, olive oil, and mozzarella presented as couverture because it was simple but wonderful. The duck was tender and cooked medium-rare served with cheese puff pastry—divine. Everything was delicious, nicely presented and not overly done, neither rustic nor high-end.

On a long weekend trip visiting the Douro region we discovered this exceptional restaurant on a drizzly foggy day.
The restaurant, architecturally designed is luxuriously rustic.
We chose the "Tabua de desgustação" to share and we were not disappointed.
It included typical bacalhau (codfish) and alheira (Portuguese sausage made from various meats and bread) croquettes and more than enough for two to share. The "pernil do porco" was done to perfection, crispy on the outside and the inside so tender it almost melted.
Excellent Douro wines accompanied our meal and the service matches the excellent food and location.
Fascinating to learn that the establishment has family ties to the Portuguese painter Amadeo de Souza Cardoso.
In the garden we found some beautiful holly trees filled with red berries.
