Attraction details
Owner description: Just 45 minutes from Porto and one hour from the Douro valley, surrounded by unspoiled nature and with breathtaking views, Amarante Golf Course is, for sure, the best option for those who seek, further to challenging golf, the unique views and wines from the Douro wine region. Located in an extraordinary landscape the Amarante golf course also includes several waterfalls. Hilly & narrow but gentle to play: When driving off from the tees at the start of the holes, the Amarante golf course demands particularly precise shots because of its narrow design, and because of the bunkers protecting greens and lakes, which are decisive ingredients of the game at holes number 3, 8, 12 and 17. Despite being a hilly golf course rising 600 metres above sea level, most of the 18 holes of Amarante Golf offer a gentle game, because the architect, Jorge Santana da Silva has been able to limit the climbs to a minimum. Amarante' signature hole: Hole number 4 of Amarante golf course must be made mention of, being a par 4 for just 306 metres, but nevertheless offering a considerable challenge. Its approach shot must be made onto a green raised 10 metres above the fairway which measures just twenty metres wide and seven metres long. The best players can hope for a birdie if they perform well on the par 5 holes. Points of Interest:Amarante Golf Course is near the famous Relais & Chateaux Casa da Calçada and the famous Largo do Paço Michelin star restaurant.

“A gem of a golf course.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 4, 2012

The 10 minute drive from Amarante to this extremely scenic course gives you a very good clue to the type of terrain you can expect. Yes, it's hilly. But, the course winds it's way across the valley and through the pine trees, and there are some stunning golf holes. All different. It's a great course with good fairways and very good greens. 7 par threes make this course different. It's a non standard sort of challenge. Very interesting. There are also a couple of very good short par 4 holes. They may look easy, but they are not. Lofty tees, plus lots of undulations, and those Pine trees make the course tricky. Although it's a fairly short par 68, I would rate this course as difficult. (I'm an 11 handicapper). Take an electric cart...it's steep in places between green and tee, but it's an extremely enjoyable course. The club has an excellent practice facilty and the restaurant in the clubhouse is very good indeed. As at July 2012, they have a great value special on Tues and Thurs that includes lunch. Well recommended. Swing by this way if you can...

Dear Sir,
Thank you very much for the review from the Amarante Golf Course.
This golf course is owned by the same company as the Casa da Calçada Relais & Chateaux Hotel in Amarante.
We are really glad to hear, that being such a good golfer (handicap 11) the golf course was up to your expectations in terms of value for money, quality and difficulty.
Indeed, until the end of September, we have a really nice promotion for this golf course, including, green fee, buggy and lunch.
Hope that in a future we can "wow you" again.
Best regards from all the Amarante Golf Course Team
